this team is not trading for any big name QB. the guys being rumored are all old and their teams are going to be asking way too much anyhow. we have far too many draft needs and cannot afford to part with draft picks for nothing more than a gatekeeper QB at this point. everyone needs to set realistic expectations for how the next couple seasons will unfold. sucks, but it is what it is.

I don't like his throwing motion or his arm. He's just not good enough.

Haskins lacks the maturity and focus to get nearly what he should out of his talent. I wouldn't be shocked to see the Steelers go into next season with Rudoph and Haskins competing for the job, but that will not go well.

No there’s holes all over this roster but they need to draft a QB better than Mason I don’t have 20 years to watch placeholders. The problem is drafting guys who suck then you’re stuck with them for 4 years and have to draft players to replace them like Edmunds and Bush both first round picks who need to be replaced.

Is this from the mid season report?

I like what I saw from the preseason. It was preseason but at least I don't know it.

I'd rather take.unkown over mason. What do you think?

Replace the G with a C and change another letter and you have what he really is: Jimmy Crappolo. Why are some so enamored with the guy? He sucked today and tried to give the game away but the Cowboys sucked even more. His 2 rings were as a backup to TB12. I don't get the hype for this dude.

Jimmy G has a winning % of .700. That's higher than Rodgers and Ben at about .666 :rawk:

Problem is he chokes (see today and Super Bowl) and he is always hurt.

Jimmy G would possibly take the Steelers to an AFCCG as his ceiling but that might be a miracle with this coaching staff.

The Steelers will be drafting their future QB. Too many holes to fill with
FA money. Let's hope they spend wisely.

Jimmy Garappalo has only had success when he’s had a top tier running game and top tier defense taking the pressure off of him. Sure, just like a Baker Mayfield or Mitchell Trubisky he’s had flashes where he’s looked like a guy you could build around, but he’s really not a good passer if he’s not throwing off of play action with half of the defenders scrambling to recover from the play fake (which itself is only effective because of their rushing attack). Hard pass on Jimmy G.

He's not the most mobile guy, and I imagine he wouldn't be cheap. I'd rather see them go with a cheaper placeholder like an Andy Dalton and try to draft the long-term option.

His price will be dependent upon what happens with Rodgers and Wilson.

The operative word there is cheap. This is about finding a placeholder until they can bring in a long-term option. One option, Dalton, would require the team to spend $10 million for a veteran who is at least better than the scrubs the Steelers have now. The other option is to trade away multiple draft picks for an injury-prone, immobile veteran in Garoppolo, who makes killer mistakes and is under contract for one more year at about $26 million. They aren't winning a Super Bowl with either guy. Better to spend the draft capital and cap room elsewhere.

Because he took his team to a Super Bowl but lost to the juggernaut Chiefs?

Yes. QB plus continue to work on the oline.

Did people not watch how bad Ben and the line were this season? And still won 9 games, much of which was due to the defense. Yeah, the defense had some bad game but a lot of that was a direct result of the offense not being able to do it’s job.

I think the bigger problem is finding that plug and play QB.

49rs are supposedly looking for trade partners to trade JG, what would the asking price be? I dont know much abt him but if we could get him for a 3rd or 4th, would he be worth it, and a good fit?

$25m cap hit for the acquiring team, in other words he is not getting traded. Nobody will take on that contract

If he is cut he will have some suitors however, and the Steelers could do worse than kick the tyres if he is willing to take a team friendly deal. He is better than Rudolph without a doubt.

He’s not what the Steelers are looking for but the guy was 1 win away from starting in his second SB in 3 years. Something to be said for that.

I don't think the Niners are going to get a lot of good offers for him.

Assuming that's true, what would you be willing to give up to get him for the next year or two?

A third round? A fourth round? Nothing?
