Don't know if this has been talked about, but sounds like he will be interviewing for the LB coaching job in Green Bay since Kevin Greene has stepped down.

He married a local girl who was 3 or 4 years behind me in HS. Really cute girl. Used to see him out with her at local bars. Guy is fire plug...no neck at all.

What this has to do with the topic? Absolutely nothing.

Okay, I'm just going to say this. LeBeau needs to go NOW. Because of his refusal to see that many of his schemes are old and tired and easily deciphered by creative OCs, the Steelers are letting talented defensive coaches hit the market. We're very fortunate to still have Keith Butler but he ought to be the defensive coordinator at this point. I think Carnell Lake also has DC written all over him. And Olsavsky should be the linebackers coach in Pittsburgh, not Green Bay.

I know the Steelers won't force DL out, but he ought to have enough respect for the organization to recognize that it's just time for him to move on. Somebody gave DL a shot and it resulted in a HOF career, and a much deserved one at that. I hope he doesn't taint it by continuing to hang on well past his effectiveness. Time to give the next DL a shot.

I can see and understand what you're saying. I also hope Jerry stays. I'm also gonna miss DL when the day comes he won't be here coaching.

Is Olsavsky a brilliant coach? It's a genuine question. I know he's been around here for a while and doing good stuff, but I also know we get a bit too hyped about guys who played for us before. So while this isn't quite on a par of "bring back Hines to coach because we're nostalgic" and the like, if we're talking about moving Lebeau out to make room for these guys, what gives us confidence as to how they'll perform?

Again, genuine question. I'm still pissed we didn't get Greene as a coach.

The classic over achiever. Did I mention an ex Pitt Panther. Oh my he had
a head on his shoulders. and lots of heart.
If those qualities rub off on Steeler players they are much better team.

True that! With the intensity we saw out of Cam Heyward towards the end of this year and especially in that NFL Films segment with him maybe it is starting to "click" with him. That would be awesome for sure. I want another hungry Joey Porter type guy.

Wasn't Green Bay, but looks like he may be moving on though. Hate to see him go purely from the standpoint that I liked him as a player.
Hard to make a strong case for some of these coaches to stay since we were 8-8 the last couple seasons?

Jack, I really think the defense's problems as of late have more to do with players than DL. With that said its hard to see young promising coaches leave when you have a guy (DL) that will probably be gone in a year or two.

At some point the long term future has to outweigh the short term present?

People think Wilson won't be missed? This loss wont even be a blip on the radar in comparison.

I don't necessarily disagree with that, Glenn, but wouldn't it be just as easy to say that the Steelers success on defense over the years has more to do with the players than with DL? I just think it cuts both ways. It just seems to me that offensive lines have our blitz schemes pegged these days and if we don't pressure the quarterback, we usually get picked apart.

I hear ya, just don't think I'm ready to run DL off yet. Another sub par year Defensively and the Steelers will make a move.

Someone, I forget who, made the suggestion that the Rooneys ought to let him know he has one more year, his swan song if you will, and let him go out with a lot of fanfare and dignity which he deserves. I'm just afraid that DL doesn't know when to say when and before you know it, we'll have a Joe Pa / Bobby Bowden scenario on our hands.

FWIW, Tomlin has already said there will be no changes at either coordinator position for 2014.
