I was watching the replay of the 1st pre season game and I was impressed with Warren.
He hits the hole fast, makes defenders miss and has some nice hands out of the backfield.
His efforts might spell the end of Benny Snail Football.

Side note: Anthony McFarland is running strong as well. Can he stay healthy?

I hope he makes the team, ball security cannot be a problem though. He better hold on to the ball better. And I am not sure of his pass protection ability, he will need to be able to do this also.

I like Jaylen Warren and what he brings.

But it may come down to McFarland or Warren.

McFarland had a few nice plays Sunday as well.

I just can't see Tomlin moving on from Benny Snell, he really likes Benny.

I think Snell makes the 53 because of special teams, maybe they will keep 4 RBs Harris, Warren, Snell, and McFarland.

With Master Teague put on IR, this saves Snell for another year.

Snell was probably making the team anyway, but I could see both Warren and McFarland making it now.

For me I can't see what Benny brings to the table, there are plenty backs that can do better. Warren and McFarland although only 1 game has shown that.
Both Warren and McFarland had more yards per run then Benny ever had in the NFL. Granted special teams Benny is good but I still don't get that you keep a running back for his special teams play only.

It was nice to see JW do his part to carve up a pre-season vanilla defense.

From my recliner, it looked like the end of Benny Snell Football. However, given his UDFA status, JW May end up on the practice squad, only to be brought up when McFarland gets hang nail.

It’s going to depend on the rest of the preseason games. McFarland and Warren ran really well. They will have to continue that if they want to unseat Benny Snail for the back up spot. I like Benny well enough, but it might be time to move on. Benny plays hard and plays excellent ST’s. He just isn’t an NFL caliber runner. If we feel like some of the young guys (namely Heyward) can fill his ST role, then there’s no reason to keep him around.

I am hoping the RB room is Najee, Mac, Warren and Watt. That’s the best unit. If we’re keeping a player that is only good for ST’s you keep the guy that plays Fullback. You can ship the 4th string RB. Just my opinion

You are taking a tiny sample size from a preseason game way too seriously. It makes no sense at all to compare those numbers to regular-season games. In addition to making little sense, your post was also inaccurate. Snell has averaged more yards per carry in an NFL game than Warren's 5.7 Saturday. Snell had 5.9 per carry in a 100-yard effort against the Giants in the 2020 opener.

I guess you think seven carries in an exhibition game is more important than two years of being useless in regular-season games when evaluating McFarland.

No, I'm not talking about 1 game, been watching Snell for a couple of years and I believe we could do better. We have had this discussion before just don't see what you see in Snell. Okay as special team player but you not an NFL running back. Im looking for a decent running back that can spell Harris better then Snell and Warren seems to hit the holes better and more quicker. You will see in the next couple of games if he is the real deal.

This could be the year they only keep 3 RB's...I don't know why they keep 4 anyhow...Tomlin rarely uses 2

I don’t think they will keep 4 RB and a FB, especially with the depth of the DL and WR positions ( who would you cut? ) . Then there’s the TE position problem…. Pat ( Moooth!!!) is in, Zach Gentry is virtually a shoe-in and Connor has proven he deserves a roster spot, But Rader is the BEST Blocking TE we have and with our OL woes he’s need, plus the Steelers have a history of Loving a very good Blocking TE.

Agree...As of right now...Najee,Warren, Watt, Heyward,Muth, and Gentry are in imo...So who stays , and how many out of...

    Snell...
    McFarland...
    Rader...

But...You can't always factor in what they " usually " do ..For example...

    9 OL...
    7 DL...
    4 ILB....

Or whatever the number " usually " is to each specific position...Like this year, we have SO many good WR's it seems...maybe they would keep one extra one, and cut another position a player short...or maybe a trade
