Again last night he dominated the line for the Eagles. This was a huge miss for the Steelers letting him walk after 2019.

Hargrove and Hilton were serious Colbert blunders.

trying to think back on this. it was budget crap.

We had an overpriced team. Decided to (over) pay the offense and skimp on defense. now, we see the foolishness in what Colbert did.

By all accounts they tried to keep him but couldn’t match the money he’d get elsewhere. The Steelers already had Tuitt and Heyward earning top money at DT when Javon left. Tuitt went on to have a career year in 2020 before the death of his brother took its toll on him and football became secondary (understandably).

Javon is one of the best in the game and is on a very reasonable deal in Philly, it is a pity they couldn’t keep him given all that has happened since.

Hilton mentioned above is another that walked and should still be a Steeler. It was the covid cap crunch year but in truth the team prioritised bringing Ben, Juju and Ebron back for an ill fated final dance for Ben when it was very obviously time to start rebooting the team. The roster management and team building in recent years has been very suspect overall tbh.

Mentioned this in the Thursday Night Game, thread. Should have paid Hargrave. I was banging the table for them to keep him back then. Some people were down on him because he had some bad moments but he was dealing with a back injury.

Hilton was another one, he didnt get all that much from Cincy.

I’m going to be disagreeable here

The last half of the year he played for the Steelers the guy was constantly get pushed backwards for runs straight at him

Apparently he stepped it up in Philly but he wasn’t showing it here

    And Cincinnati overpaid for Hilton

If your not paying an over the hill QB 26 million/year than yes you might be able
    To afford Hargrave?

I think they would of like to kept him but couldn't afford him due to the cap issues.

Losing Hargrave looks a lot worse due to events they couldn't have foreseen with Tuitt. Obviously, they would be better off now with Hargrave, but that's all hindsight.

Hargrave was also sort of miscast as a 3-4 nose tackle when he was a Steeler. He is much better as an end or 4-3 tackle, a role that allows him to attack and penetrate rather than take on blockers. Oddly enough, that is primarily what they ask of Heyward and Ogunjobi now.

Letting solid talent leave is maddening. I’d rather release a group of mediocre depth collectively than watch a perfectly sound player go for a cap savings that should be used for them. Especially for a guy who wasn’t going to break the bank and set to earn top position money.

    Mike Hilton is another example.

This..:this!:..I liked Hargrave, and miss Him, but people at this time forget about Tuitt.....I promise if the Steelers could forsee the future....They would have kept Hargrave, but We couldn't pay, Tuitt, Hargrave, and Heyward.
Most of this (like myself when watching Him) is all after the fact.
Can You imagine paying all three....Well no Watt contract then.

I peeked in on the game to see Steven Nelson get a strip sack and wondered what it would take to get him back as well.

Yes they couldn’t have known Tuitt would retire early so it is hard to blame the team for how it panned out. Alualu was also there and playing very well at that time.

Fully agree that Javon was never really a nose, but given how much they are in sub package that hardly matters.

It’s great to see him doing well, the Steelers got great value from his four years in Pittsburgh

They are blunders because they didn't foresee the future with Tuitt, and they knew Watt contracts was coming up???
Come on....LoL. Again....they couldn't pay....Hargrave, Tuitt, Heyward, and Watt.....that's not even counting Minkah later.
People are already b!+ching about being the highest paid D.

Paying Ebron was just stupid. You always have money for a solid player

Ebron sucked before during and after his stay with the Steelers. You didn’t need to be able to see the future

Again....No matter what.....No team can afford.....Heyward, Tuitt, Hargrave, Watt, and Minkah all on multiple year contracts, and all on one side of the ball.

If you have no money for a solid player that means you overpaid crappy players or often injured players or both crappy and injured.

Steelers management has made some mistakes for sure, but they’ve also had some lousy luck the last few years.

Losing Shazier really set the team back - no way they could predict that injury.

And losing Tuitt was also a huge blow - again an impossible situation to foresee. The team basically chose Tuitt over Hargrave, which was the correct decision based purely on skill. No one could predict Tuitt would be done at 27.

Paying Tuitt, Heyward and Hargrave would have been impossible.

Sounds like the eagles are built to win now...... From what I understand, Hargrave is in the final yr of his contract and we seem to have a tendency to bring back the ones that got away, be it in free agency or the draft.... Don't be surprised if we shoot our shot with Javon in the off-season
