I just don't see how the team lets him go. Other than WRs, we rarely seem to lose impact players before signing them to a 2nd contract.

That being said, if I was Worilds' agent I would strongly be pushing for free agency. Worilds could definitely be looking at a huge pay day if he hits the market.

I'm not sure about this are there even a dozen teams in the league that play a 3/4 defense? Some team will probably overpay Worilds for his productive 8 games if true.

I think we messed up with Worilds. I always liked him as he showed signs of getting to the QB, but the team never did (thought I was clueless as I was in the minority with the fans too). Now that he had a good season, in his walk year, we will need to over pay him.

I think he's gone, which is ironic, as I wanted him extended last year, now I don't want to overpay for him. Some team out there is going to pay him like he's a consistent 12-14 sack guy...

It's hard to say the team never liked him. He was stuck behind Harrison and Woodley. When he would get a chance due to injury it always seemed like he was also banged up at the time. Look at what happened with Paul Kruger he was stuck behind 2 really good ones in Baltimore he got his shot and the Browns paid him a bunch the next year. To say Worilds should have been starting over Harrison or Woodley before he went to crap would be a pretty big stretch.

Lets hope we don't overpay Worilds just because some other fool teams are willing to. We don't need any more bad contracts.

He had a good 1/2 season. He hasn't shown that he can be productive or stay healthy for a full season yet.

Got to let him walk...he wants to start..and be paid...I might be wrong..but doesn't it take a lot of dead money to cut Woodley...like difference between keeping him and cutting him is only like $500,000

If they designate him a June 1st cut I think they save like 8 but that's a lot of dead money next year.

Worilds looked fairly solid last year but no way I throw the bank at him. Steelers must develop and lock up talent faster. Letting talent sit for years only to realize it at free agency is pretty 8 and 8.

That's probably Worilds agent putting it out there to drive up the price.

Could be part of the head game between agents and teams.
Other teams play games like that. The Pats did it. The fear of Brady throwing to Sanders, or him blowing up for a conference rival, caused the team to blink and overpay/keep him.

Woodley looked like the next great LB, forcing the hand to feed him. I don't know if he's actually biting it, or just peeing in the living room.

Here comes high-stakes poker. Prepare a reasonable offer based on his skill set, and what they expect from him. If they expect the worst, evaluate what they have; I like that Peazy and Jerry O are in Indy today. The team will move on.

That is what I was thinking. Who else would? Teams don't talk about who they are interested in and why would anyone other than the agent talk about a vet at the combine? This has agent written all over it.

who knows maybe this is carters year to show he can play. it's his last year under contract too. it took worilds and lewis that long. we have wasterman and so'oto in camp this year and Woodley hasn't been cut yet with JJ and carter, maybe they just go with what they have. next year would be a lot more cap friendly to cut Woodley june 1.

Very 8-8. It's always a bad scene when you have to make a big money free agent decision on a player without knowing if you can count on him or not. If we throw Woodley type money at him, my head may explode.

Neither can Worilds. Think about it. Do we really want to give another huge contract to a guy who can't stay on the field? At least with Woodley there was no sign of being injury prone when we gave him his contract. We can't say the same about Worilds. If his contract blows up in our face, we'll know exactly who is to blame.

From what I saw from this past season, Worilds is the second best linebacker on the team, next to Timmons. JJ needs time (although a bunch of young rookies make an impact year 1), and Woodley is moderate when healthy (which he never is anymore), and we don't have any idea what is going to happen to the second ILB spot.

The linebacker core is in a mess right now. Now we will lose Worilds because we overpayed Woodley and can't afford to keep him. This sounds familiar (K. Lewis). Also, let's not forget that our pass rush and run defense last year was terrible beyond belief. So outside of Timmons and Hayward, I don't think any of our front seven should be locks to start unless they show improvement and resist injury.

There is lots of talk about drafting a tall WR or o-linemen or TE (essentially offensive players), but I say expend the first 5 picks on defense. Rebuild the front 7 and get younger players in the secondary with SPEED. The offense showed at the end of last season that it can score points, and I think Bell is going to be a monster next year. Sure, it would be nice to have a tall receiver, but I like a WR core of Brown/Cotch/Wheaton/Moye/Random FA or late round draft pick. We can be successful with that lineup. We can't be successful with our current defensive front 7. Clip and reload.

There is no way we should over pay Jason Worilds. Don't forget Worilds was often hurt in prior years. I'm fine with the Steelers paying him a good fair price, but if some team over pays.,let him walk. In a worse case scenario, we still have Woodley, if he isn't cut, if they are both gone, we can maybe draft another player or sign a stop gap. I'm afraid some team will over pay him.

I agree with the need to focus on defense. I don't understand the lust for a big time WR. If you replaced Sanders with Calvin Johnson, this is still not a Super Bowl team.

I'm afraid that team will be us. This situation reminds me of the time we boxed ourselves into franchising Max Starks even though he had been benched and they didn't really like him. Colbert hasn't been doing a good job of managing our roster for years.

Why does everyone buy into this notion that Worilds is injury prone? He started one season with a wrist injury that caused him to miss half a season. He still put up 5 sacks, Woodley has had soft tissue injuries three consecutive seasons and Worilds gets as much injury talk as Woodley. The real reason Worilds hasn't shown as much as we'd like is because he was behind Harrison. I'm not saying overpay for him but all this injury talk is overblown. His developmental trajectory is on par with his predecessors its just that rookie contracts are shorter now than in the past.

Worilds had 2 shoulder surgeries in college, and he's been banged up or broken in the pros while playing part time.
