Don't know much about him either, as a player. Seems like he's just the kind of FA the Steelers target: under the radar and coming in cheaper than comparable options. I know he's an older guy so my only real concern would be if he's willing to give it his all on special teams, which is what I'd like a 3rd down specialist to be able to provide.

As long as he is better than Cam Thomas but that bar isn't that high.

Jones is a decent 4-3 end. Steeler fans will remember him most unfondly as the guy who sacked Ben 3 1/2 times in our 2008 loss at Tennessee. Jones was a rookie then. He's the kind of player that I'd really like to have as a versatile, rotational edge guy who can play DE in our 4-3 nickel, and maybe even spell Heyward or Tuitt in our base defense upon occasion.

Yep. There's another thread on him lower on the page. I agree with your view on him. I also liked William Hayes for the same role, but he resigned with the Rams.

This would be a nice signing if the dollars work. That's a big if though, because edge guys get premium pay.

Sorry, didn't realize there was already a thread... They never sign "that guy". The mid range player I think would be a perfect fit. I would LOVE this move....

    Walterfootball says:

Jason Jones, DE, Lions. Age: 30.

Jason Jones has never been the same since tearing his patellar tendon a couple of years ago, but he was decent in 2015. He didn't really show any weaknesses in his game, though he wasn't overly forceful.

    I'm better than Cam Thomas.

Jones could be a solid rotational guy, esp if the price is low.

Blake vs Cam Thomas ? Like the opposite of the immovable object vs an unstoppable force.

*movie voice-over* In a world where the offense needs a quick score or an easy block one-on-one, one duo is there to save the day. Blake and Thomas - Super Zeros.

Probably mentioned by others before, but if they are looking at Jason Jones, than guys like Kevin Dodd and Shaq Lawson are prime targets in the draft.
