On a day when the defense was flying around and nearly everyone made a splash play, Jones was invisible... Again... Is there any hope for this guy, or is he Alonzo Jackson with a different nameplate on his jersey?

Yeah...I really like him but I agree - yesterday he was not a standout. I don't actually think he was out on the field that much? Or maybe he was and he was just that invisible.

He wasn't invisible in NE. And he had 5 tackles yesterday which lead all our OLBs yesterday.

He did??? I remember seeing him make one tackle. Of course, Shazier was so amazing that all of the focus was on him.

So for the sake of the conversation (which there's already been a butt load of threads about.)lets just say he sucks. So what do we do about it today?
I can answer that for you, not much other than let him play and see if we can get a full healthy year under his belt. Then at the end of the season make some decisions based on his play.

I've noticed that once people get it in there head that a player is terrible all the do is look for things to confirm their belief and sometimes go as far as fabricating things about said player.

Put it another way - if he's invisible, then he's not missing tackles or assignments. That's half the job done. Not the exciting half, but half nonetheless.

The thing I liked about the game was I barely noticed our CBs at all.

Could be. I love JJ. I have met him twice at training camp and he gave my daughter his signed glove. Not to mention, my oldest daughter's fiancée is a HUGE Georgia fan. I honestly don't remember him being that involved yesterday but, like I said, Shazier was so incredible its hard to notice anyone else.

Jones was obviously not terrible. Any holes in your defense are always exploited in the NFL. And there was no exploitation at all yesterday. You don't have to be a splash player. Just do your job and control your area and that is all that is really needed. He may never live up to a number one Steeler's pick but I don't think he is as bad as people say. Lawrence Timmons is a case in point. People were saying he was an absolute bust for the first 3 or 4 years of his career. But look at him now. Same thing with Cameron Heywood. You have to give people some time to get it. Some take longer than others. If he is still not up to the task by the end of his rookie contract then cut him at that point.

In a bad way which hardly ever happens. Blake was hitting HARD yesterday! I mentioned earlier that I didn't even realize that Cortez didn't play until after the game was over.

I got a notification from Steelers Nation Unite that I had after game field access.
Me and my son went down and took some pictures. It was really cool.
Didn't get home till 4:00 this morning.
    Heading into work now.

He didn't have 5 tackles yesterday. It was more like 2 or 3. He didn't have a terrible game, but it wasn't great. He was pretty average.

Oh ok. I thought I was losing my mind. I have rewatched the game twice and I honestly don't remember the announcers calling his name at all.

He had 5 total tackles: 3 solo and 2 assisted. Didn't see any of the game so can't comment on how he looked outside the stat sheet. I think Jones will be the least of our worries this year, especially on D.

I'm all for Jones. Stick to his assignments, don't give up big plays. Yes he might be a bust for a first rounder, but if he can stay healthy and not smoke pot :D I don't mind him on here.

I want the guy to succeed and live up to his draft status, I just don't see it happening. Maybe he'll wind up being a journeyman OLB who can be counted on to not screw up, but rarely ever make any impactful plays.

If everyone else steps up...that's all we need. Let our offense rip new holes in defenses.

According to the ESPN stats he was credited with 5 tackles (3 solo). I'm not gonna re watch the game to see if that's right or not tho lol I agree that he wasn't great, but he's not looking too bad out there.

Unfortunately for him every game that isn't a really good one people are gonna be making posts like the OP. "Didn't stand out today. Bust?". The reality is that he's getting better, but still isn't quite what you want from a first round pick. He still appears to be an average starting OLB that is only an average pass rusher and a good run defender. Playing him in a rotation with a pass rush specialist is not a bad idea.

On a better note, I am especially impressed with how Dupree has looked the first couple weeks. He has played a lot more than I expected, and played a lot better than I expected this early in the season. That is an encouraging sign. Hopefully his game continues to develop.

Interesting. I see that the NFL game summary has a tackle credited to him and he wasn't part of it.

Invisible if you're not paying attention. I noticed him a few times, including a great stop on the goal line. (I think it was 1st down, in the 3rd quarter.)

Sometimes there's not a lot you can do as a player. If you watch him specifically, you'll see him beating his guy pretty consistently, which is not something you could say about him before. He's officially a mismatch for tight ends, which, again, you couldn't say before. And yeah, watch him against New England. He made Nate Solder look pretty crappy.

I think the 5 tackle thing includes assists. I read he had 3 tackles + 2 assisted tackles.

People have to keep in mind that JJ is essentially going into his "2nd" year now since last season was basically a red shirt year.

As for Bud, with his freakish ability, he just needs coaching. I like what I have seen so far, I think he is going to be a beast.

This is very true. As an OLB, if you're dropping into coverage, and not getting torched, you're probably going to seem invisible, and of course if a run play is to the opposing side, you'll probably not be noticed.

That is pretty true for last week, but not very true for yesterday.
