OLB, and our CB's were the 2 positions we could least afford injuries, and Murphy's Law: look what happened.

Silverback, yeah, I would take him back!!!!!!

Not sure that is a good question and a valid point.

The Team might want to consider training DHB to play CB . At this point I think the Team has to consider every option . I swear it looked really ,really bad after Ike went down. I was stunned and how much him leaving changed how open the Panthers got... Hopefully Tomlin knows he must do something next man up Blake = Fail. period.

    Likely (in order):

The team goes with the "next man up" philosophy and proceeds accordingly.
In the same vein, the team adjusts schematically to compensate for the loss of Taylor.
The team shops the free agent market and brings in an experienced, journeyman DB.

    Less likely:

The team trades for a CB.
The team has a wide receiver switch to CB.

It will be next man up, Richardson. Lets see what the kid can do.

They aren't going to trade Wheaton, those type of trades are almost unheard of in football.

With Ike only out 6 weeks or so I think we go with the likely if Ike had been out all season we would be better suited to go to the unlikely .

As to the convert WR'S to CB'S I think that is the wave of the future . With the NFL having so many rules to open up the passing games CB'S need not be as good at tackling as they used to be. Basically you need guys with size and speed with a bit of a Attitude .To me that's DHB.

I see Teams already inserting WR'S at DB ,what's the harm in lining him up in practice and seeing if he can stay with his guy or not ?

My point was I think it has less to do with Ike being out of the game and more to do with the scheme at that point of the game?

Oh ok I see your point, but sadly that was not the case they kept playing the same way with 4 and 5 man fronts with man or man/zone behind it. They just could not cover anyone every WR was better than the CB guarding him .

    Blessings in disguise.
Sometimes the guys we were stuck with are worse than replacement level, and I believe that Ike & JJ are definitely worse than replacement level.

Hoping to have our D step it up and I be proven wrong about Dick Lebeau's D being obsolete.

Idk if I could disagree more with this post. Ike hasn't been particularly good, but I doubt that we are going to find a replacement (on out current roster or off it) that will be an upgrade in play to Ike. Also Jarvis Jones, up until his injury of course, was our best player on defense in the first two and a half games. In essentially 10 quarters he has 2 sacks, one of which was a strip sack for our first turnover of the season. He hasn't been dominant, but you can see that he is turning into a really solid player at the ROLB position. Losing him is going to sting badly. Moats looked fine out there and Harrison will get some snaps too, but considering either an upgrade over what JJ is (or will become by the end of the season) is a huge stretch....

They should be fine without JJ but as you said, he was turning the corner, its going to hurt from the standpoint of setting his development back. Really unfortunate.

I totally agree that we will be fine without him. I wasn't necessarily arguing that he is irreplaceable, rather I was more responding to the poster that said that losing Ike and JJ to injury will be addition by subtraction. That is just asinine.

I'm not disagreeing with your post and I know JJ got credit for that strip sack, but we all know he really neither stripped, nor sacked Cam on that play. He rushed well, but then got mauled to the ground and broke his wrist. It's tough to tell, so yeah his helmet may have touched Cam, but Keisel may have actually had more to do with the fumble.

Agree with top 3, in different order.
And I'd change "less likely" to "not gonna happen, move along"

While he never physically stripped the ball with his arm nor took Cam to the ground, the play he made was absolutely a strip sack (it just wasn't pretty lol). I don't want to go too overboard with that one play tho. It just kinda irks me the way people totally disregard JJ's play this season thus far. I know its only been three games, but he has been one of the very few bright spots on our defensive unit. It sucks that he will miss at least two months tho. I hope he can pick up where he left off and improve his game even more at the end of the season. I have a feeling that we will need him to play well down the stretch.
