I don't want to overreact, but do we have a trend developing with these guys? Sounds like JJ has a biceps issue which is what ended the career of Aaron Smith and Brett Kiesel. I've got concerns about JJ's ability (he's slow and weak) and the injuries only serve to exacerbate my concerns. Not liking the early returns on Shazier either. Hopefully, both of these injuries will be minor and nothing to be overly concerned with. This is make or break time, at least for JJ.

I'm going to wait and see they didn't say anything as to what the actual injury is. Could be nothing more then bumps and bruises. It sounded like Jones was having a decent camp and looked a lot stronger. It sounds as if the defense is really flying around so bumps and bruises are going to happen.

What? Kiesel had a torn triceps that ended his season and Aaron Smith was placed on IR in 2011 for a neck injury and released in March of 2012.

I was thinking about the triceps injury he had which many thought would end his career. I knew it was a significant arm/muscle injury. While that injury didn't officially end his career, it was a significant setback as his career wound down. Is a triceps injury more or less significant than a biceps injury?

Oh, and you're going to have to replace your disagree button if you keep zapping me with it like that. :lolol:

A bunch of players were held out of practice for "injuries". It's typical of this time of year. Don't make something become lingering. With that said, they do get serious injuries this time of year as well. For now I'm not yelling the sky is falling.

You're right. Probably best not to even read the injury list during training camp. Kind of like not looking at your 401-K day in and day out. :smiley1:

I'm no alarmist, but these two injuries are worrying me.

    1. These aren't the guys you hold out of practices like Heath and Ben. These guys should practice.
    2. There are a lot of "bumps" and "bruises", but the bicep? The back? Those could be serious. They could both land on IR and miss the season.

Maybe it's nothing. But I'm afraid they'll both miss significant time, be it preseason or some regular season, or worse. That would be devastating.

First thing I thought reading this headline was "typical". It is becoming a trend with these two.

    On Shamarko and J.J.

LOL, I hear ya, Kermit. Like I said, I don't want to overreact (okay, maybe I do because it makes for more interesting MB discussion) but I've seen "Jarvis" and "injury" used in the same sentence far too often his first two years in the league! It's time for him to either prove that he belongs at this level or, as Chuck Noll used to say, get on with his life's work.

Yeah things could be worse, Jadeveon Clowney comes to mind, the number 1 overall pick in the draft by the texans saw little playing time in only 4 games last year, was injured with a micro fracture and probably wont play this year either: little dings here and there in camp are common place, as long as we stay away from IR injuries we have plenty of time to evaluate who our starting line up will be......

IF JJ is hurt AGAIN will you consider it a safer bet to start calling him a bust or just an injury prone backer that was never able to live up to his potential? The reason I ask is because I don't know if it's ever fair to label a guy a bust that doesn't get to see the field due to injuries. A bust to me is a guy whose production never meets the supposed expectations. Like Ryan Leaf. It's hard to evaluate a guy that can't stay on the field.

I hope all those guys saying it'll be nothing are right. These are the two guys I feel most invested in, and I believe in them... if they can stay healthy.

I will say that despite Jarvis' college health concern, I'm less concerned about him flunking out due to injuries than Shazier. Jarvis has been NFL healthy except for that one big injury, which I would consider something of a fluke. Shazier has the size concern, and he's had some more injuries here and there - 4 weeks for the knee, 3 weeks for the ankle, now the back.

But now that they're both hurt, I don't even know what to think. And I will say that in Shazier's defense, I don't really have any concern that he won't work out based on talent, like I do with Jarvis.

Nah, I agree. A guy isn't a bust due to injuries. He's only a bust if he's not good enough. The result is the same, but I don't care. I wouldn't call a guy a bust if injuries end his career.

It looks like Jarvis is practicing today, so you're right. Thank God.

Shazier is there, but not in pads and not practicing.

Good news on JJ. When I heard bicep I was thinking please don't let it be a bicep tear. Sounds like a bruise. Shazier has to figure out how to stay on the field. This season is crucial for him but not to the extent it is for JJ. These FIRST ROUNDERS have to be on the field and they have to be making plays!

Over on SteelersDepot everyone was freaking out two days ago when Jarvis got shut out on backs/backers. But supposedly yesterday he rebounded and had a great day, getting the best of Beachum a couple times and making plays in 11 on 11. I am so psyched for preseason.

Glad JJ is back on the field. A torn biceps is no joke. Surgery and out for the season.

The Ravens are currently holding their breath. SS Matt Elam is to have a MRI tomorrow. Suspected serious biceps injury. Dude could be missing 2 seasons in a row.

I read somewhere that Vince Williams has supposedly looked the best through the whole camp. Have you heard that too?

Yeah. Doesn't surprise me much, but we just gotta go with Shazier. I wish Vince could play another position. They'll find a way to get him on the field, I hope.
