CountryStrong13 definitely needs more playing time. I put him over DJ18 all day.

I'm sure it's legit, but was curious on the source of those drop numbers? I was trying to find some yesterday and couldn't find any.

The one that sticks out are Claypool only at 3 drops. I would have honestly put him up at 7-8 on the season.

I don't think so. DJ is the one WR the Steelers can least afford to lose. He has the ability to create quick separation that the other WRs don't have.

He also drops more passes, and fumbles more that the other receivers, the team did just fine when he missed some time earlier this season.

PFF but it was the day after the game that I looked it up, might not have updated yet to include those drops.

JW has 3 drops on 36 targets. He’d have around the same as DJ over as many targets as he’s gotten.

They are undefeated so they have done fine without anyone who’s been missing. That’s nothing to go on.

If DJ can clean up his concentration drops, he’s a Top 20 WR in the NFL. There’s some strong talent there. He needs to work very hard after practice with the jugs machine to get rep after rep of watching the ball into his hands until it’s second nature.

So I went back and looked and the Ravens game is in there but no recorded drops for that game. So, like a lot of their stuff, they must have their own formula for what counts as a drop.

I’ll look around to see what other sources I can find for comparison.

I found this site and they are even stricter in what they consider a drop as they have DJ and Claypool with less drops than even PFF.

    https://www.tsn.ca/nfl/statistics#/receiving

I’d have to go back and watch the game but I would consider the pass to Claypool early on in the game along the sideline a drop and the one to DJ in the endzone a good defensive play. I noticed during that game how tenacious the Ravens were in using there hands to break up passes, they were all over them. Even Washingtons big grab to seal the game, go back and watch that play, the Ravens guy with his back to JW managed to get his hand in there and spun around trying to wrench the football away.

As a Canadian, I gave up on TSN a long time ago. But yeah I'd like to know there definition of a drop. I wouldn't be surprised if every site had their own definition.

Shouldn't a drop simply be an action in which the Receiver has possession of the ball but loses said possession simultaneously?!

Not sure I would be willing to do such. If anything, split reps with him and Chase. I seriously doubt the "Rookie Wall" has approached Chase yet as that Wednesday Game was an anomaly for him.

That said, James Washington definitely deserves more reps overall. As I have stated before and will again, James Washington is not the flashiest or most athletically gifted Receiver on the roster. What James Washington does provide that no other Receiver does however is his work ethic, perseverance and tenacity; traits that yield immense dividends in big time situations. The most recent outing is just one of many examples of how important James Washington will be come playoff time.

Now, if there is an injury to the Receiving Corps, while it would be a blow, it would not be devastating. James is "Steady Eddie" and will yield very good results.

I have no way of knowing how many plays are called with Washington being the no. 1 option or whatever, but I can't believe he is happy with his number of targets. Also, I don't know if he simply is not getting open. With that being said, I would be surprised if he would want to stick around for another contract. Personally, I think the man has the talent to be a very good receiver in this league.

Yeah and Ben throws inaccurate passed quite often. Some of those dropped passes fall at Ben's feet for throwing inaccurate balls.

DJ is the one WR we have that has great route running with a special twitch and separation. He is the WR that stirs the drink for this group of WRs. I am not sure why that's not apparent to you?

Fans have no tolerance for dropped passes and some receivers feel the wrath more than others.

Even AB dropped passes, in 2018 he had an absurd 1 drop on the season but 2017 he had 5 drops, 2016 4 drops and 2015 7 drops.

Incidentally, AB had 6 drops in his second season, he turned out pretty good.

Every WR is going to have drops, but Johnson seems to be from lack of concentration, such as trying to run before he has secured the catch.

He also has more bonehead plays than any of the other receivers .

I am not sure how we define bonehead plays? Drops are not boneheaded plays. He needs to improve in that area for area for sure. DJ has "it" in terms of his other skill sets. Pay attention enough to the positives and you will see if for yourself.

Really? Personally, I think Diontae is the most talented receiver we have (even more than Claypool). The kid has it. He has had a few concentration drops this year (which sucks), but man the kid can run routes. He is constantly open. He actually has really great hands and has made some good catches... he has just been too inconsistent (which I understand is a problem, but its still year two). Ben really likes throwing his way too. I guess all it takes is a couple drops and the fans sour on you (except it hasn't for Claypool yet oddly, despite showing real flaws with his hands. LOTS of dropped balls all year from Chase).

I see his career path a lot like AB. He is going to get some early hype because he has had a little success, but a year 3 or 4 breakout could easily happen. There is absolutely ZERO reason to take DJ off the field for dudes like Washington and McCloud.

    DJ - Claypool - JuJu - Washington - McCloud

Like what? a few drops? muffing the first punt return of the season? Pretty much all the others have pretty serious warts themselves, do they not (possible exception for JuJu, who I think is a wonderful #2 receiver)

Claypool has suspect hands (we are getting close to "poor hands" discussion) and some fumbles.
    Washington struggles for separation
McCloud is just a gadget type who is not really a true WR

The kid dropped a few passes (on a day where Claypool and Ebron were stone hands-ing it as well) and now everyone is souring on him....

He's our best WR. He just is. Hopefully he can work on his consistency, bc if he can shore up a few concentration drops and get in the right flow on the back shoulder throws.. the sky is the limit
