i wonder how long until some star WR/TE gets his knee blown out and the rules get changed (they did it already with QBs after Marcia's knee was crushed)

and who will bet against me if i say, chances are slim to none that there'll be rules that protect defenders better? stuff like the "stiff arm" (why the heck to commentators keep calling it a good play when a RB pushes off a defender by grabbing the facemask when it's a penalty for pretty much everybody else on the field?), all the cut-blocking, etc.

What many of us have said, going to start blowing out a lot of knees. And what about rib injuries? I don't know about around the league but there have been at least 3 on this team this year, is that a result of the new rules too? Troy had it right, you need a committee, some of which is made up by ex players and review these things to determine if there should be a fine/suspension and so forth. This can't be a black and white thing where you say, helmet to helmet, automatic fine, there needs to be a grey area.

    Absolutely agree.

Secondly, I think that teams should be give a "penalty challenge." Fifteen yards and an automatic first down can have a significant impact on the outcome of games, given the amount of parity in the league. And too often players are called for illegal hits when actually the hits are legal (case in point, Steelers-Giants and Cincy-Dallas games this year). So give teams an ability to challenge a bad call. Would it slow the game down some, sure...but I think it would be worth it.

I have a friend from the great white north named Shaner82 that will be delighted to hear this news from Harrison. I read about this yesterday and I thought about him when I read it. He has been saying for some time that Harrison needs to adjust.

Harrison has definitely adjusted since his suspension.

I get what you guys are saying about rib and knee injuries, but the league would much rather deal with rib and knee injuries then have to deal with head injuries. The fact is, when it comes to head injuries, there's too many questions and not enough answers. What do repeated concussions do to the brain? Are repeated concussions associated with dimentia, ALS, chronic encephalopathy, etc. Repeated blows to the head are causing a lot of problems for a lot of people later in life, a rib injury is not going to cause the same problems.
