    You're right, wouldn't work, theres no drinking on the job here and abuse of exclamation points is frowned upon. Would have been nice knowing there was an employee that I could go to for a pay cut that wouldn't mind though. :taunt:

    At first I was going to say how stupid the idea is that all of our logic and words couldn't make you understand reason, but hearing two men make beetle-smashing sound effects would get through to you.

    But then I realized you might be onto something... Kudos to you! Enough of this Rosetta Stone nonsense. From now on I will limit my responses to KUH! KUH! KUH!

    Here ya go, little buddy. [rustles hair]

    You win this one, man. Maybe your kid can explain the difference between a video and a gif to me, because I have no clue. I've never posted a video here before. EVER. But you're right to imply that I'm the dumbass here. It's me.

    On a serious note, I'm not a parent, but if I were you I'd want to limit my son's exposure to these debates. I'd have been crushed to learn about my dad what one can learn about you from reading this thread. Hope I'm not overstepping too much.

    Alright, I'm out. This was fun.

    If he's better than any one of the LB 's on our roster then he is worth bringing back.
    Age is irrelevant in this situation.

    Yeah but Harrison isn't better than the current OLB certainly not Worilds, father time is undefeated name another 36 yr old OLB in the NFL who is any good.

    Since you still feel so strongly, maybe now you'd like to address my earlier thrashing of your premise.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    But he loses a round every now and then. I'm okay if we don't sign him, but if I had to decide right now, I honestly think he'd be a better #3 than Moats or Carter or Zumwalt or whoever else we have.
    1. He knows the D. He's a smart player, which helps aging guys.
    2. He can shut down the run on his side.
    3. He's in great shape (clearly) and wouldn't have to play full-time, making him more effective.
    4. I bet he could still offer a decent pass rush; he's a relentless player and strong as hell.
    5. The last we saw of him, he was better than any other guy we've got, other than Worilds. I'm including his time in Cincy, during which he played out of position.
    He doesn't need OTAs or minicamp, especially with us. We can use this time to get the young guys reps and sign him later. I would be surprised if he doesn't play football this year.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    I'll go again.

    Some guys fighting for an OLB spot this year... Moats, Carter, Zumwalt, Howard Jones.

    Harrison isn't better than any of them? If we're talking about 2014, I'd say he's better than most, if not all of them.

    A. There's more to the job than just speed, and there's more to the job than making splash plays. Especially for a backup. Defenders must defend. It's not just attacking, it's also not being a hole on defense. The weakest link will kill your team. Harrison would be Mr. Reliable if we needed to plug him in somewhere. He knows everything.

    B. Going back a couple years, he was a very well-rounded player. Suppose every single aspect of his game dropped off. He was arguably the best pass rusher in the NFL. Despite the lack of credit, he was also arguably the best run defender in the NFL at his position. And he was super underrated in coverage. A half-assed James Harrison is a well-rounded player that is plug-and-play and won't let down the team. That's the description of an ideal backup.

    C. Intangibles? Despite magazine articles and BS fines, he was a model teammate and a positive force in the locker room. He wants to play here which means he knows he likely won't start over the 1st round pick and the $10M man. He is of the highest work ethic and would only bring positive things. And if he's up for teaching, he could be very beneficial to Jarvis. I can't guarantee he'd go for it, but I wouldn't be surprised. He knows he's on his way out.

    D. Chris Carter is the most experienced of the bunch, and he's shown zero in his first 3 years in the NFL. Age be damned, Harrison can rush the passer
    better than him, and I'm betting everything else, too. Zumwalt will be in the midst of a position change if he sees OLB, will take time to mentally and physically adjust to the NFL. Howard Jones is on the outside looking in. There's buzz about him, but he'll have to do some hurdling just to make the team. He'd have to do even more to actually reach #3. Moats is the only one that I see as possibly better than Harrison, and the only reason I say it's possible is because he's such a big question mark. He's been moved all around, played in a different system, and has never been a star even at his best. He could be something, or he could be nothing.

    E. Last year Harrison was coming off a banged-up season, he was 35, and we were still willing to pay him millions of dollars to play here. Now he's healthy and rested after basically a part-time season, and if he returned, would not be a fish out of water like he was in Cincy. He'd be back where his body and mind set him up for the most success.

    F. Can we all just agree that "Father Time never loses" is stupid? Yeah, we've never seen a 500 year old man win Super Bowl MVP. But are you saying you've never seen a player outperform his age? Jerry Rice was an NFL All-Pro wide receiver at age 40!! How many wide receivers can say they did that past age 30? What if it was 33? Or 35? Forget losing a round - for Jerry Rice, Father Time was knocked out cold and died on the way to the hospital.

    If Rice is too extreme an example because he's the best to ever play, then how about something more ordinary... Warren Moon played decent ball into his 40s. James Farrior earned the nickname "Father Time" because he was still so good at such an old age. Yes, time eventually caught up with him, but he got more years than he was "supposed to." There are tons of other examples.

    Of course Harrison will get too old to play and retire. Maybe this year, maybe next. But don't you think it's a good idea to look at his recent history if you're looking for an indicator, instead of some number on a page and an old hack saying? And if you want to make an excuse to back out, you can say you didn't realize that he wasn't even a starter until he was 29 years old!

    G. Howard Jones and/or Zumwalt can go on the PS. They are potential for the future, but if either of them sees the field at OLB this year, it won't be good.

    I could probably go on. No one is saying to throw gobs of money at him. We wait until training camp starts. If Carter and Moats both blow us all away with a James Harrison-like mid-career resurgences, then we don't need him. If they look like most of us expect them to, then we can see if James will take a 1 year deal for vet minimum or close to it, keeping in mind that although he's free to compete, there's a real possibility he does not start. I don't see how that makes us worse. It does NOT make us an older or slower team, unless you care more about averaging out the ages of our roster like they do for fun on NFL network. Me, I care about winning games. A better player makes us better.
