lol I guess so. I just can't comprehend how Goodell can catch any heat over this considering that he hasn't done or said anything yet.

Rule #1: Goodell hates the Steelers
Rule #2: Everything Goodell does (or doesn't do in this case) is due to rule #1 even if it has absolutely nothing to do with them.

    :frustrated:   :tease:

Sure there is some wrong doing, but I only expect a slap on the wrist. To put this on the level of Spygate or Illegal substance suspensions like some sports analyst are saying is crazy.

Where do you stop with the fines as well, its possible over half the league is doing this stuff.

Do you fine over half the league?[/quote:36nttoq1]

I guarantee that the league will come down as hard or harder then they did in spygate. Fines and loss of draft pick plus I bet there will be suspensions. 2 reasons; first because the league found out about this previously and told them to stop which of course N.O. ignored and secondly, protecting themselves from lawsuits. "Hey, we found out about it an came down hard on them, we're all about player safety".

Dungy believes that the Skins put a bounty on Manning, which led to the hit that started his chronic neck problems. Seems pretty devious to me.

That seems to make sense to me TE. Completely plausible.

Given Ben's noted unpopularity in the league, me wonders if all those nasty hits he's taken (I'm especially thinking about the face shot that tore off his nose & the sandwich job that blew out his knee) were "bounty-related" hits. Hmmmmm. :hmmm:

It's funny, some of the guys on Sirius NFL said this would happen. Anytime there's been a big hit, people are going to start thinking back and wondering if it was part of a bounty program. We shouldn't rush to assume things. Fans of other teams can easily say the same thing about Harrison, although we know he's just a hard nosed player.

Conveniently not called by the refs though. Might have been a memo handed down from the Commish to let Ben take the hits . Maybe?

I CAN NOT STAND ROGER GOODELL. BUT one thing I would have to say is that maybe he doesn't hate the Steelers in general he just hates the Steelers D because it stifles offenses, which in theory puts people in seats whether on their couches in front of the tv or in a stadium which ultimately all comes down to money. The ONLY reason I say that MAYBE he doesn't hate the whole orginazation is that he did atleast lower Ben's suspension. It is hard for me to believe he would EVER do that for James Harrison. I also think that he has tried to make James Harrison and the whole Steelers D the poster boys for "dirty" plays. It will be interesting to see how he handles this.

You guys remember when they played the eagles a couple of years ago before Johnson died(I think that was their DC) and it took three players to bring Ben down. One wrapped up his legs the next took him midsection and the third took him about the head and shoulder and they all proceeded to twist him like a pretzel. Now this was on a pass play where he didn't even advance the ball beyond the LOS and they still didn't blow the whistle till while after the Eagles had wrung hi out like a towel. That was roughing a QB far more than anything that has ever been done to Brady since the knee hit and yet they blamed on his ability to escape and create plays. Well yeah but not when three guys have you in the grasp then you blow the darn whistle. sorry need to vent about that lol

What gets me, is these guys know going in, signing on that contract
that football is a violent sport played by violent people. This is why they are so highly
compensated. If they are afraid of getting hurt(possibly life long) or maimed
or will die young don't sign on the dotted line.If I had the God given ability to play
Pro football I would sign every time. Lets see they get to play the game they love
and live like millionaires even an avg player say 5-7 yrs tenure will probably
make enough money that he will never have to work again a day in his life. Let me
see I have been at it for 35 years and if I am lucky in another 10 might be able to retire.
I will take that trade off every time.

Goodell doesn't hate the Steelers. He probably does hate James Harrison due to the comments Harrison has made over the year, but he doesn't hate the Steelers. Come on, the Steelers are one of the premiere teams in the NFL and the Rooney's may be the most respected owners in the entire league. Goodell has changed the rules because he has no choice in the matter. Whether you believe the rule changes are about player safety or about the appearance of player safety is irrelevant. The fact is that the league is facing more and more lawsuits these days as a result of injuries, so they simply had no choice but to change things up.

It's unfortunate it has affected us so much due to our playing style, but it's not personal.

Just because a team is a "premeire" team doesn't mean that the commish has to like them. I would say that Pete Rozelle went to his grave hating the Raiders. Also, didn't we vote AGAINST the bargaining agreement or did we just abstain from it or something? I would say that there is no love lost between the Steelers and the league office. I don't think that there is a "conspiracy" but it is odd to me that the same people will say things like goodell "swept spygate under the rug" and then say there is no "conspiracy" Now granted I DON'T believe there is a conspiracy but I'm just saying.

I remember that. To be fair, I'm pretty sure the rules have changed since then so that they have to blow the whistle earlier rather than later. Which ironically seemed to go against Ben, because then it didn't give him a chance to escape...

I still don't buy into the "Goodell has it out for the Steelers" stuff. I honestly think that the rule changes are a result of our litigious society and the "Someone needs to take care of me for me" attitude of many Americans today (which includes a lot of current and former NFL players). The league had to put some new rules in place to insulate them from potential lawsuits by players and or player's families for long term repercussions of playing football. The problem is that the rules are vague and allow for too much interpretation. IMHO Goodell is not unfair as much as he is incompetent.

Couldn't agree more. It's not personal, it has to do with the number of lawsuits the league is facing these days
