As I said when we drafted in JC, he wasn't or never was going to be
in Lev Bell's league. BUT he could get you 7-800 yds per year. Of course that
is if he could stay healthy? Which we know he couldn't. And I am a Pitt man.

One has to hope (pray?) that the Steelers' braintrust didn't look around the division and conclude that their only problem was that they needed a better RB.

This is truly grasping at straws. Don't separate your shoulders as you "reach" towards the next pointless thing. Benny makes me feel like a Kool-aid drinker and I've done my fair share of complaining.

It helps that Conners is behind a better OL, no? If he were here, he might be on IR by now.

At least one factor for the Cardinals and Browns success is that they've rolled over a lot of money from the years where they were awful. (Not Steelers "awful" vs fans expectations, but actual awful.)
With the base salary cap at #182.5M, the Cardinals are $7M over that number, and the Browns $20M over.
They won't be able to sustain that advantage.

The Ravens do have a great rushing game, but I keep wondering if they are running the wheels off of Jackson (even more than the Steelers are doing for Harris).

Yeah, my worry was you don’t fix the offensive run game by injecting a Good RB into it. As your post implies, it’s a system with many moving parts. However, n some respects I must admit they’ve done better than I thought. I agree with you in regards to the running game.

Can Conner play his way into a COMP Draft pick for the Steelers?

All too true, but see, it doesn't support the OP's assertion that the Steelers have as much talent as Tampa Bay or Cardinals, both of whom certainly qualify as "any other NFL team."

If he were here we might be hearing reports of being unsatisfied with playing time. He would not be getting those goal line touches here.

He would purely be a backup which I doubt he would have taken to. It was best for both parties to part ways.

The OL wasn't going to be fixed in one offseason, Green and Moore will continue to get better, then in the offseason they need to add a few more players.

Even people that didn't like the Harris pick have to agree.

I think his contract is below the threshold for a compensatory pick. Open to correction but I think I recall reading that at the time

I'd take a running game over a running back 8 days a week.

    As of the 2020 CBA it's 1 yr/ $1.75MM. Double-checked Connor's, he's at 1/$1.25MM.

Except that the only year he started behind a solid offensive line for the Steelers he put up 973 yards and 12 touchdowns in 13 games and he averaged 4.3 yards per carry for his career with the Steelers which is excellent. Those aren't backup numbers.

His issues were injuries more than anything else which is why, with all running backs, rookie contracts are all you should give them. Any decent RB can get a 1,000 yards and 4 YPG+ behind a good oline which is where the investment should always be.

My best guess would be it's in the players' CBA. They voted for it, thus they agreed to it.

Basically to keep to keep the system viable while increasing player salaries. The 2020 CBA includes a yearly increase to minimum salaries through its expiration in 2030. The actual amounts are determined by years of service: e.g., the current minimum ranges from $660k for rookies, to $1.075MM for vets with over six years of experience. By 2030, those amounts become $1.065MM and $1.480MM, respectfully.

Since compensatory picks are meant to help offset a team's loss of 'quality' players respective to those signed, parameters like contract received, snap count, and playoff experience are used to define those who qualify as significant, and to what extent. To put perspective on the $1.75MM limit, the current minimum for players with four to six years of experience (the pool containing the bulk of impactful FAs in a given year) is $910k in 2021, $1.395MM in 2030. It would be hard to argue that your team suffered a significant blow when you lost a guy that got $800k above minimum wage.. well, in NFL money anyway.

Thanks for the explanation. I don't agree with the rule, but now I understand it better. Seems like production should be more important than the pay.

I liked the KG pick and big Dan has been better than expected but still has a ways to go. He’ll be dealing with Garret today!
My issue, as I’ve stated before, is how do you not know DeCastros status until the day before he’s to report? Put him in this line and I like it so much more.
