That seems amazing for us. The right length and the right amount of money.

Good signing, a short term deal doesn't hurt the team being tied to a CB over 30 years old. It also gives time for Layne to develop.

He is one preseason removed from the greatest interception in 2018

I’m wondering if it’s $22 million in new money, or a deal that converts much of his $10 million salary for 2019 into a signing bonus that’s included in the $16.8 million number. I really like Haden, but I think $22 million in new money for 2020 and 2021 is quite a bit for a corner on the other side of 30.

If he stays healthy it will be a good extension. Cross the fingers, pray to the lord, get some holy water.

Not bad a little more breathing room, perhaps find a TE (not much available), or is there still time to get Hilton under contract?

    This.

Ben's contract was also similar. Ben's deal gives the organization time to see if Mason is the real deal or not. Same can now be applied to Justin Layne. I expect a bounce back season from him in 2020. Only question remains now is will the team sign Javon Hargrave or pursue someone else in either Free Agency or the draft in 2020?!

We will have to wait and see.

Still have lots of money to spend next year, esp if we dump Bud.

I was hoping this would be done. He is the top corner on this team, a leader. Great value.

As far as Layne he was a disappointment out of the gate. Raw, yes. I'm hoping as I mentioned in a different thread he doesn't become Burns part two. It doesn't matter to me that he was graded a 3rd rounder. They have a better eye for corners on the free agent market. Hopefully Nelson doesn't disappoint.

    We can only hope.

I know. I meant don't retain him, or at least not at $9M/yr.

I am not so sure he can stay healthy, he has really never been
much of a physical football player. Cross your fingers.

If he has two seasons like last year, I think it’s worth it. The savings this year can help the team do something to address the lack of TE depth (and maybe swing tackle depth after what we’ve seen from our backup Ts this preseason).

This is one of those expensive bills you must pay in life. A little expensive, even by league standards, but glad we locked him up. Guaranteed money extremely high for Steelers but they bit the bullet here even though Haden will have a hard time living out this contract on the field. Has the Bell - Brown saga affected the front office's thoughts on cost?

I partly fear that bud blows up like pre-contract lamar Woodley..... gets paid and becomes post contract lamar Woodley
