I've brought this up before, but I haven't really heard anyone's opinions on it.
Do people think that KFP doesn't trust Washington, or He's not seeing Him???
Maybe He drops a lot of passes in practice (I don't know this). Has anybody heard anything???? Because He's open at least 2 - 3 times a game, and yet I can only remember KFP throwing to Him about 3 times all year(maybe more, but thats all thats coming to mind). Hell I've seen KFP look right at Him while He's open, and then go elsewhere. Just wondering what others are thinking.

does Matt Canada even have a lot of plays for Washington or is he mainly a blocker?

    Thanks for the read.
But how does that pertain to seeing a TE(Washington wide open), and then turning, and dumping it off?? I have never heard of any Coach saying.....Don't throw to the open guy.....it's why I have wondered if He doesn't trust Him , or something.

Washington is open at least 2- 3 times a game. I know its not a lot, but I have watched plays where KFP looks directly at Washington, and turns, and throws to a dump off behind the line of scrimmage. If I never seen Washington open....I wouldn't make the thread. I'm starting to wonder if He doesn't trust Him, or something.
Hell I seen KFP game before look at Him, and then take off to the right, and threw the ball out of bounds. I can't figure it.

I thought the same thing. I saw one play where Washington was out in the flat and Pickett looked at him for a second and then turned to the right and threw it. It was almost as if Pickett was going through his progressions but already had his mind made up that he was doing the dump off to the right.

I also noticed they were subbing Heyward in more this last game in place of Washington. I don’t know if that was just the game plan or if it was desired by KP. I know KP has alot if confidence in Heyward. Good hands but struggles with blocking.

I cannot put the correct words to try and answer your question, after reading the article all I can say is the person writing the game plan is a complete idiot. Admittedly Muth has been injured, but the scheming design for him has again been planned by an idiot, Conner is a hybrid, but it seems whoever plans for him is an idiot, Washington is a rookie, but again whoever plans for him is an idiot. I may be overthinking on this one position, because despite being 4-2, whoever puts the gameplan and calls the O for this team is an idiot, we could miraculously get into the playoffs, even go on a run, hell win the SB, I'll still say the guy who has a 3 year trail of failure is an idiot..may be a nice guy, but nice guys are often idiots in their profession.

Maybe he mistakes him for an offensive lineman?

It must be a trust issue. KFP knows about tight ends, and he knows the playbook.

The Steelers never knew how to use TEs...I mean, if Gronk would have been drafted by the Steelers, he would have been used mostly as a blocker...I'm exaggerating a little but using TEs, the Steelers don't know how...

Talk about a short list. Heath Miller, hands down greatest Steeler TE. I guess if I had to name a number 2 I'll go Mark Bruener. Good for the ground game.

I know, it's complicated and deep, I do appreciate your breaking down the one word that describes the issue at hand. I could have expanded the idiocy of more idiots, but the thread was specific about use of TE's and KP. KP needs instruction, but I will refrain from using that term again, I mean let's not get to personal.

I just assumed he wasn't in the list of receivers in the progression.

I assumed he was too far down on the progression and KP is on his back before he gets to him.

C Heyward gets passes though. Must be first read in the game plan for him

I don’t get it either. That’s a huge target and while he was used mainly as a blocking TE at Georgia he has shown that he has the ability to catch the ball. Not sure why Kenny is not going his way since there’s no way he can’t not be seeing a target that big. Some of it’s on Kenny but I don’t think Canada is using Washington the right way either. Of course what more should we expect from Canada?

I'm leaning this way. It doesn't matter who , or how a play is called....an open target is an open target. This is why I laugh at some people's thoughts. No coach , OC, or otherwise says....Hey don't throw to that guy, or they wouldn't send Him out on a route. Anyone on a route is a option, and since I've seen this more than a couple times each game....I'm wondering if He just doesn't trust Him.

I would think the same ....except for seeing Him look directly at Him, and then go elsewhere. I'm beginning to think He just doesn't trust Him I'm the situation, or something. Like maybe Washington drops a lot of passes in practice, but of course I don't know because I don't see the practices.

KP and the OC are scared. The OC does not know how certain players will drop or bracket the middle of the field. As such the game plan is outside and WR'S on clear out stuff if in the middle of the field.. Thus the reason KP says its the game plan as neither have enough command to know or see the field and trust what they know and what they see .. In a nut shell they are scared unless it's max protection. ..

Either Matt Canada isn't drawing up plays for Mt Washington, Kenny simply sint seeing him on developing routes, Darnell himself is still not fully grasping the play book, a combination of the two or worse?!

    All three.

It truly is a conundrum for certain. That much I will cosign with the OP. Again, for both the Head Coach and Coaching Staff as a whole to sing his praises after his selection, only to see him do little to nothing, is disheartening... to say the least.

No one here is asking for him to nab 5 targets per game; most definitely not me. Max catch total I had for him was 25. He will be happy at this point to see even 10 catches at this rate!!

Freiermuth wasn't getting much play. Seems Canada forget to add the tight end position into his wonderful schemes. Ya know its so complicated.
