That's all nice and pretty and I appreciate the sentiment, but the two teams have two entirely different problems. Cowher always wanted a game manager as a qb. A QB that for the most part didn't have to win it for you, but more importantly wouldn't lose the game for you. This team doesn't play fundamentally sound football. The very foundation of the game is blocking and we're abysmal at it. Adding insult to injury we have zero depth at the OL. I started a thread 7 months ago about this and was told we have Beachum and Malecki and whooppee.

I dont know why I am so pissed about this game. I had a terrible feeling of dread all off season that nothing had changed. Our coaching staff is in disarray and whoever cut Dwyer, should be fired.

Thanks Bus, I hadn't given up on the season yet anyway but good to read this regardless. Completely forgot about Llyod going down for the year. That team was a lot better then this one though but still, plenty of time to right this ship.

between the comments i found this a very spot on

Where is the heat for Colbert? He recognized last year's team as not up to par. yet what did he do this offseason to Improve the team? sign bill gay and matt speath? yes that's change but that's not improvement. our recent drafts seem to be lacking. our TE and RB situation right now are a disaster. I blame Colbert for much of this mess.

This morning on BR they stated that they were in the process of resigning D
Dwyer. I will try to find the link.

Yeah, I saw that on PPG, but whoever cut him in the first place should be fired immediately. Its just one bad decision after another with this team.

Injuries are to blame for TE and RB mess. Both of which will be rectified when Heath and Bell take the field. Well, maybe not at RB if the line doesn't get it together but that wouldn't be the fault of the RB's.

Freak, agree with you, has any other team ever brought back and resigned so many players like the Steelers do!!!!

    Spaeth
    Gay
    Foote
    Macfadden
    now Dryer
    Burress

I'm sure there is more that I can't think of right now. It's like they can't evaluate talent and they are more confortable with players they actually see in practice. I now that they know the system but come on now this way too many.

We have declined in offense since Todd Haley took over. I have seen high school offenses know what was happening better than we did Sunday. Where are my guys from yesteryear who could score 2 touchdowns easily with 3 minutes on the clock!

You mean your greatest coach can't get this thru to these guys,
Come on, you and blast furnace are in love with coach T yet you come on and blast him for not having HIS TEAM FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND. Blocking is Abysmal? Your words not mine. Who is in charge here? C'mon man, the light must be turning on for you. Its like calling the kettle black. Just as I figured.

I appreciate what he has accomplished, I know you and others will dismiss his achievements as a result of winning with "Cowhers team", I've shredded that argument so many times I don't care to rehash that now but it's just peculiar that you recognize there are some things out of Haleys control but you don't with Tomlin.

I think you better reread the quote you are referring to, I specifically said that I DO NOT LIKE TODD HALEY's PLAY CALLING. Hell I didn't even want him hired. You and strummerbum or strummerfun are two peas in a pod, cut from the same cloth. You guys have all the answers, yes you do LOL.The truth will set you free!

The problems with the offense pre-date Haley. Haley was not the OC when the offense struggled...

against a weak jets team, in 2007, and lost in OT 19-16
against the Chargers a year later and scored just 11 points at home, on a cold day, when they should have brought the wood against the Chargers
against the Browns on a Thursday night and managed just SIX POINTS in a late season loss that effectively ended their 2009 campaign, a loss even more embarrassing than Sunday's
against the Colts and Chiefs, failing to do anything offensively against two depleted opponents

And these are just the highlights

The game on Sunday is just the latest example of an offense that can't consistently do squat. Whether Arians is the OC or Haley is, it doesn't seem to matter. I blamed Arians up and down and thought Haley was an improvement. I realized last season that Arians wasn't the problem, and therefore Haley isn't either. Both men are decent OCs, at the very least. Those who are criticizing Haley are forgetting what he did with Arizona and how he managed to make Matt Cassel look good. Those of us who disliked Arians have been silenced by what he did in Indy last year.

So what would be the problem? What has NOT changed over the years?

I hate to say it, but the problem is likely our quarterback. And along those lines, the problem is likely a head coach who refuses to hold him or anyone else accountable. Of course, I'm just guessing here. But given that Haley's offense has been just as bad as Arians', I'm not sure we can simply say it's just the OCs.

Let me rephrase that: he's a big part of the problem, but OL isn't helping matters. It is also consistently terrible. And there is no good explanation for why.
