Joey Porter is one of my all time favorites.

 

I'll never forget him throwing down with the browns before a game, and I believe 2 of them got kicked out of the game along with Joey.
That was back when they would show it. After that warm ups have been handled differently.

 

Porter was one of those players that defined what Steelers football was supposed to be and look like on the field. He did not know where his off the field button was.

 

Speaking of John Kolb, the Steelers o-line of the 1970s era, did not then, and does not now, get the respect it deserves. Granted Webster was recognized for his play as a HOFer, but Kolb was a solid tackle. Unfortunately, teams did not realize the value of a LT until Lawrence Taylor blew up Theisman.

 

You know shortly after the 05 SB run maybe it was that season or after Porter said he was getting tired of the team trotting the 70's player out at the home games. I wonder if the idea has grown on him as the years roll on.

 

As you said, lack of HOF Players are the reasons why.... that and notoriety. The "Great Wall of Dallas" had that in spades despite having only one. The famous "Electric Company" was another without star power sans Joesph DeLamielleure. The known ones such as the "Hogs", the "Iron Line" and Lombardi's Packers had multiple.


That said, I do agree overall. Why the 1970s Steelers Offensive Line is continually shortchanged is definitely something that strikes me as odd.

Definitely a thug mentality. In a good way on the field. Maybe not necessarily so off it.

54 not a good number for the Steelers. I only remember a couple. Hardy and Donta Jones.

 

I actually rembered a player named Zac Valentine.

Mike Webster lived right down the road from me and I used to pass his house every day on my bus ride to High School. It's a damn shame he ended up living under a bridge down by the Monongahela river. RIP Mike. I still make it a point to pass by your house when I'm back in town which will be once again next week. It's a great view coming down the hill.
