I believe the hold up is learning the defense but this speed is crazy and how they will attempt to replace what Shazier provided on D. We'll find out if he's up to it.

I say put him out there in place of Bostic.....

Bostic and Vince are the same LB....... Bostic has done ok vs the run But is a liability in the passing game which we knew from the start.....

Sit Burns , brunette and Bistic.... Start Sutton, Edmunds & Thomas and let them grow together .....

Can't be any worse than what we have..... Also need more Dangerfield in the Dime, Dollar, Big Nickel

What the hell is the problem with Burnette? Dude hasn't been able to flash much of anything. I'm a fan of his. Burns and Bostic are fine to GTFO. lol

Steelers struck gold with Willie Parker and James Harrison. Steelers are due. Thomas and Adeniyi... the Next Generation.

All he's flashed so far is an injured groin.

Williams didn't practice today, so maybe Thomas' odds of getting into the lineup, just increased.

Burnett can help if he can get healthy. Unfortunately, that has been a problem for him in the past and it continues to hold him back this season. That was the risk the front office took in signing him and it isn't paying off.

The kid has a motor, a nose for the ball and speed, it can't possibly hurt to put him in and see.

I saw a tweet today that said Adeniyi can practice now but still has a month to wait before he can possibly get a hat on gameday.

Who said that? I sure didn't. I said I'm not optimistic about an UDFA because almost all of them never do anything in the NFL.

I've been chanting it now since the beginning of the season. Get this kid on the field in some way, even if it's not in a starting capacity at the moment. He will make some plays.

He had some off the field issues at Florida State as I understand it that caused his draft stock to drop. If I remember correctly some of the problems were related to his mother's death and the aftermath causing some academic ineligibility. Don't quote me though but I believe that was what Watt Wack said about why he went undrafted but had led Florida State in tackles for two years

To me though, none of that stuff would be deal breakers to most teams.... there has to be something else?

His draft profile makes him seem like a project.

    https://www.nfl.com/prospects/matthew-thomas?id=32462018-0002-5598-86e2-43ff05f442ff

    Draft Projection- Rounds 6-7

    Overview:
Thomas is lacking in many of the areas teams covet in linebacker play. His instincts are poor, he doesn't always play with a competitive demeanor, he's not a downhill player and he lacks play strength and productivity for the position. However, Thomas does possess a long frame with outstanding play speed and the potential to make plays. It's his athletic traits and "potential" that will give him a shot as a WILL linebacker who will need to excel on special teams to stick with a team long-term.

    Strengths:
    • Long-limbed with a frame that might be able to pack on more muscle
    • Has explosive athletic ability with plus chase speed and range
    • Has access to a second gear that can close out running backs before they get the corner turned and get up the field
    • Flashes disruptive quality when he triggers downhill into a gap on zone plays
    • Good reactive athleticism with talent to recover and get in on a play
    • Possesses smooth hips and feet and can mirror opponents when asked to cover in man
    • Can be a boomer hitter in the open field
    • Does a decent job of sticking his chest in on ball carriers when tackling them on an angle
    Weaknesses:
    • Has a low number of high-impact plays
    • Has just one forced fumble and one fumble recovery his entire career
    • Sits on second level and waits for action to get to him rather than playing downhill
    • Too lightweight to leverage his gap and squeeze rushing lanes
    • Allows blockers to get into his frame rather than punching to separate
    • Technique seems optional to him
    • Too willing to run rather than scrape with squared pads
    • Lacks patience when pursuing wide flowing run plays and will overrun his fits
    • Instincts and awareness are poor
    • Looks lost in a fog on play-action and will chase ghosts that aren't there

He's got great talent, but if he lives up to the scouting reports, he could end up adding to the confusion and erratic play. I wouldn't mind seeing him on passing downs in place of Williams, but they probably need a healthy Burnett for that. (Burnett could be a signal-caller on defense if you have Williams and Bostic both off the field.)
