We lost our star QB for 4 and 1/2 games. If you look at our backup QB's, it could have been way worse! Ben hasn't really played ball for a month. He wasn't going to be the Ben we know & love his first game back. For being rusty & sore, 262 yards ain't bad! Some of the play calling, drops, penalties not being called on them, stupid penalties against us, and bad clock management didn't help AT ALL. Honestly, we could've lost this game way worse than we did.
Then Bell went down. That's bad- but that certainly doesn't mean the end. We have a great RB ready to step up and play. Actually, Bell had 10 carries for 45 yds today. Williams had 9 carries for 71 yards.
    It could be worse!
We're 4-4 now & the season is only half over. The rest of the schedule is::
Raiders, Browns, Bye, Seahawks, Colts, Bengals, Broncos, Ravens, Browns. When I looked at our schedule when it first come out, the Seahawks, Colts, Broncos, & Ravens made me a little nervous. But they're not as good as they were. So- it really could be worse!
It's in our hands now. It's not over for us, our season isn't over. We can still get a Wildcard spot! Ben can only get better & DeAngelo will carry the load. The defense can only get better too when Tuitt comes back. There's still hope here!

Nice post. We have alot of issues to address if we want to make the playoffs. Lot of football left to be played. we have the talent to succeed if we can just get rid of these injuries.

Let's save the optimism for Wed or Thursday. The next 24-48 hours is for venting and overreacting ;)

I don't recall a time in Steeler's history when we have had so many injuries. We're not out of the playoff hunt but it will be a huge mountain to climb.

We are actually in very good position for a wild card spot right now. The AFC is very mediocre this year. Typical WC contenders; Ravens, Chargers, Texans, Chiefs, etc are all pretty lousy this year. Jets just lost their starting QB and the Bills are fading. I do expect at least one of those teams mentioned to turn it around and go on a run... But I like our chances of going on a run and finishing strong even more.

4-4 isn't the end of the world. Ben is only going to get more healthy, he clearly wasn't 100% today and still almost pulled it off. I know there are people around here that think this season is over, but that's just pessimism. I know that I'm more of a glass is half full kind of guy and refuse to believe the season is over. I don't see this team running the table, but the way the D is playing (better and better every game) and Ben will only get more healthy I don't think 11-5 if THAT out of the question although 10-6 is more likely. 10-6 could well get them into the play-offs where they can make some noise.

Lets hope Bell's injury isn't as bad as it looked.

Even if Ben was rusty, 3 ints is unacceptable we can get play like that from Vick or Landry.

We need to finish the season 6-2 to make the playoffs. So we can lose 2 more games and still get in.

If you believe that's do'able then no big deal. If you think 6-2 is too much for this team then 2015 is another failure.

They're 1-4 in the AFC, which is going to kill them in any tiebreaker.

They already lost the HTH with KC. They lost to Cincy and Balt at home (think it gets any easier on the road)? Denver's D is better than any the Steelers will face and they struggled against lesser ones. The Raiders offense is playing well (better than the Steelers). They've got about a 10% chance (if that) of winning in Seattle.

Hard to see much better than 8-8 (I'd rather see 4-12)

Hard to imagine 6-2 - not winning at Seattle so do they beat Cincy in Cincy? Balt in Balt (Tomlin is 3-5 in Balt and lost 4 of last 5 there), Oakland isn't a pushover (they're better than KC, they're better Baltimore)

I sure don't see 6-2. I struggle to see 5-3 and get to 9-7 and see if we can get in as the last wild card. A record of 8-8 would not surprise me the way this year is going.

Hey we have Ben back! We have AB, the best receiver in the league with Martavis & Heath.
We have a defense that may miss tackles- but they're causing turnovers!
YES we can beat the Ravens in Baltimore & we can beat the Bengals in Cincy! They came here & beat us! Here or there, they're still the Ratbirds and the Bungals!
I know yinz are frustrated. We should have beat the cheating Patriots, the Ravens, the Chiefs & the Bengals. But we didn't. Now we have to play the hand we've been dealt & we just can't just give up halfway through the season. Especially when there's 8 games left! If you're going to, why even be here- just to complain?
I'm not saying we'll win every game coming up- we could even lose them all. But I'm not counting them out until they're out.

Relax. I don't think anyone is giving up. Some people are just a little more realistic. I hope your right but it doesn't look real good right now.

Wow.. I'm usually the biggest pessimist when it comes to sports, but have you guys looked at the AFC standings lately? A good bet 8-8 makes the WC this season. You can't seriously be giving up this early, can you? We just got Ben back.. And we easily could have had two or three more wins with a competent QB or kicker. I think we finally have both, despite Ben's predictable poor performance today coming off injury.

This team can beat Seattle.. They aren't anything special. 6-2 will be tough tho, especially with our injuries.

Hard to call this season a failure if we miss the playoffs. We have sustained multiple serious injuries to numerous key players. Its hard to win in the NFL as it is, then take away an all pro C and RB. Very good LT, elite QB and a young DE who is turning into a stud...

I truly believe that this is a team capable of winning the super bowl that won't win it all this year. Our defense is really starting to look like a top unit, and we have tons of playmakers on offense. If we can add a SS, TE and OL in the next draft, then I don't see why we wouldn't be one of the front runners in the AFC next season.

Am I giving up on this season? No. We can still win games, and probably still win playoff games. Without Bell and the others out for the year, it's gonna be near impossible to beat the cheats in NE.

Can't really base anything on the way the year is going. So far, Martavis & LeVeon missed because of suspension. Ben missed because of injury.

If we can get in to the playoffs we could surprise some people. They just don't have much room for error in the next 8 games. The new season starts Sunday so we can hope for the best and see what happens

I would love to be optimistic but you saw our depleted offensive line against a good front today. What is going to happen when we face Seattle, Denver, Baltimore and Cincy again??? In my opinion the injury card has taken too much of a toll on the offense. Losing Beachum, Bell, and probably Pouncey for the year is a killer. Losing one lineman is tough but to lose two starters not many teams recover. I like Wallace and AV but they are not starters for a reason. Now maybe by the end of the year this experience will make them that much better but I don't see 6-2 the rest of the way. I think we will be lucky to get 4 more wins. Which puts us right in the middle of the first round. I would rather be terrible for one season for the higher draft pick than finish 8-8...

A promising start derailed by injuries.

I like our chances, especially if we keep attacking on defense.

Yeah, I agree. The other wild card contenders aren't exactly powerhouses either. The only thing that concerns me about our "competition" is that the AFC East teams play the NFC East and AFC South this year.

Our defense had a really good day Sunday, and I'm starting to see the potential for them to be above average by the time we hit the stretch run after the bye.
