@troybellringer55 was that during Farve's admitted alcohol and painkiller addiction ? That's one way to hide the pain.

Oh I agree 100% I just can't remember the time frame of his dad passing. It was during his back to back mvp seasons that he revealed he was a drunk and addicted to pills.

I'm not telling my story to make this about me, but to help provide insight on how one with mental illness deals with death.

As a kid, my brother, mom and I were mentally and physically abused by my step-dad. My brother and I were sent to the hospital a few times. It was revealed later in my life that my dad molested me, but I honestly don't have any recollection of it being true or not, nor will I ever find out it's true or not.

In my 20s I served in the navy. I traveled the world and been to amazing places. In fact I was in Germany standing top side rover watch for the first half of the SB against Seattle. I had to listen to the game as opposed actually watching it. As for my depression symptoms, they were pretty much nonexistent during that time. But that's also the time I learned how to drink, and drink hard.

After the service, I went to college and my mom developed cancer. Between work and college I was taking her to treatments as well as hs football games. After her passing, my drinking habits started to reappear. A few years later my step-dad passed away from cancer and that's when the binders started. Had a few of them and by March 2016, I was in the psychward for being suicidal. A year later I had my first attempt of suicide. Between 2017 and 2020 I was in various VA programs getting myself back together. Early 2020 was my second suicide attempt and that's when I decided to move from Pittsburgh. My symptoms are still with me but not as intense.

I can't speak for Tuitt, but I have empathy for him. Mental illness doesn't care if you're famous like Robin Williams or some random schmuck like me. It's not fun being in a crowded room and feeling completely alone. Maybe Tuitt is battling this, maybe he's not; however, I won't rush to judgement. Thanks for your time. I know this ended up being a novel.

A simple like seems woefully insufficient. Thank you for your story and I hope that every day offers you a bit more light and eases the pain that mental illness and depression can bring.

Not big on the $$$ side of NFL. If he left football for that reason does he still get paid contract?????

It would be messy because they have already paid him for 2021 via a signing bonus / restructure. They could ask for the money back but under the circumstances they probably wouldn’t.

Hopefully it doesn’t come to that and he gets back on the field after the bye. Boy do they need him

Unfortunately I don't think we will see Tuitt anytime this year, weather it's mental or injury.

I’m close to two people who lost their brothers in their 20s unexpectedly. It took one of them 5-6 years just to be able to talk about it. It had him messed up and still does really . The other one has seemed to have checked out and is not doing well 4 years later . It’s different for every person

I don't think the Steelers would put him on IR if he didn't have a legit knee injury, the league would punish them harshly. By the time Tuitt gets back and in football shape the season will be over for their playoff chances.

Thanks for the support guys. The thing about NFL players is that the bulk of them come from areas where it's either the streets or football. Many lost a lot of friends to street violence or the pen and likely has PTSD and other mental illnesses that stem from their childhoods. Many came from single mother households and may have seen drugs, and other things at home and in school. I'm trying to avoid stereotyping but it's very factual in nature. My childhood was definitely rough but others had it more rough than me.

Ray Fittipaldo was on 93.7 The Fan this morning and said he saw Tuitt at practice for the first time in over a month. He was watching in street clothes.

Knee brace would suggest the injury is very real

Hope he is ok and makes it back soon

I guess some fans will now believe he has a legit knee injury, instead of thinking he's still out because of the death of his brother.

It has been reported he had surgery on the knee. Lolley reported today that they are looking at Week 8 (after the bye) for a possible return.
