Is Tomlin simply the product of a great organization with an elite quarterback?

Yeah, that was pretty bad. I forgot about the Cardinals vs. Panthers.

The Steelers offense showed up in the 2nd quarter vs. Jaguars, but it was too late. The damage had already been done. There was no excuse for the defensive meltdown the Steelers had against Blake 'freakin' Bortles. Not having Shazier is not an excuse. Steelers should have been better than that. It was pathetic.

Great defense wins championships. That's been a true saying since American football was invented and it holds true today as well. We didn't have a great defense this year despite what the stats may say and when it really counted that killed us.
If reports are true, and I have no reason to doubt them, Tomlin had his hand in the D big time and we've seen the result. The offense is there and even if Bell leaves we'll still be set pretty good on the front but he needs to either let Butler takes the reigns, or, if he doesn't think Butler can do it, bring in someone who can.

I think he needs to at least upgrade from Lake and Daniel and possibly Porter too. I don't think we have bad defensive players - for the most part - I think we have some bad coaches and that Tomlin needs to realize he sucks at defense too.

Tomlin's not going anywhere for a long time. We know that.

I had my complaints about Cowher and they were many. But at least Cowher replaced coordinators and position coaches after bad seasons and bad playoff performances. And it eventually paid off with Whisenhunt at OC and Lebeau at DC and championship in '05. I don't think Tomlin will make the changes necessary to improve the team. Steelers will continue to wallow in mediocrity with 9-10 win seasons and quick exits from wildcard or divisional round in post season.

This Steelers are still loaded on offense and that will be enough to win games against bottom feeders and average teams, but the better teams will continue to roll over the D.

    Agree 100%

If Bouchettes report is accurate, how could Tomlin fire anyone? You and I both agree the defense was playing much better the first 5 games. Maybe it was the first debacle against the Jags that prompted Tomlin to take over or maybe its just something hes been itching to do since getting here but if he took over play calling and Lake and Butlers meetings, finger has to be pointed at Tomlin.

Could have lost Porter though, not sure he actually teaches anyone anything and his fingerprints were all over the JH mess.

My money would be on the Ravens winning the division next year and beating the Steelers twice.

Elite QB? Bib Ben is very good but in my book not an elite QB. Elite QBs are named Brady, Montana, Johnny U, Graham, Young, Elway, P Manning, Staubach, & Bradshaw. Ben has one Super Bowl victory ring and one Super Bowl participation ring where his every move was managed all season. Behind a strong defense, Fast Willie Parker and Randle El and Ward, he sucked in the actual Super Bowl XL with QB rating of 26 or so. Drama queen? You bet. HE was very good against Arizona but saved by Deebo.

    Bib Ben? :lolol:

Was this a Freudian slip or just a mis-type? I thought you may be saying he needs a baby bib since he has a tendency to act as a passive-aggressive, petulant child at times.

I agree that he's been less than elite in Super Bowls, but I think Ben would be considered an elite quarterback by today's NFL standards. At the very least he's a top-flite, franchise quarterback who's prime years are going to waste while Super Bowls are won by Brady, the Mannings, Flacco...

I did take a look at the entire body of work (season), and they played against mostly pedestrian teams with pedestrian QBs and finished ONLY 7th in the league. In other words they had a cupcake schedule. Just saying.

Initially a mistype, perhaps a Freudian slip, but when I noticed it ... well ... I thought it fit perfectly and went with it.

What makes you think the rats will win the division, was it their 9-7 record? They weren't consistent at all this year and lost at home to the Bengals in their final game, I think we will matchup better next year against them, we beat em twice this year and I expect to beat them twice next year....

Then you put your money on the Steelers and I'll bet the Ravens on those two games and we will see how it shakes out. I'll bet one of us win. lol

Ben is an elite QB, for that generation he and Rogers are the best. If you group them with brady, breeze and manning then he is still top 5. AB is the best wide receiver in history next to rice. AB is a better version of larry fitgerald and fitz is all time too. Add to that we always get good running backs and had a great roster when Tomlin took over it is a crime to have only won 1 SB. Top 5 QB, top 3 receiver of all time & A class roster for 1 SB???? GTFO. Giants threw Tom coughlin's old ass out after 2 SB in 4 years, why we hanging on?

Ravens are in much better shape on defense than the Steelers. They lost some players in the secondary to injury who will be back next year. Ravens could easily right the ship on offense with some lucky draft picks and free agency pickups. I've seen it happen several times before. Steelers fans write off the Ravens and then the Ravens go on to win the division and play much more competitive against the Patriots.

I said the Steelers were overrated by the sports media. I was right. The offense is pound for pound, the most talented in the league... but consistently underachieves. The defense is below average and probably one of the 5 worst in the league... stats and rankings be damned.

No such thing as a cup cake schedule at the professional level. Every team in the league has the coaching and talent to compete and beat your team.

Football is a team game. Takes more than a QB and WR to win games.

The roster that Tomlin took over in 2007 went 6-10 in 2006. I am not saying the Steelers were a bad team but there was some work to do. The Steelers defense eventually got old and needed to be rebuilt. There are still some pieces that need to be added.

Some fans like to overrate the Steelers. For example, people will complain about X Y or Z player being busts but on the same hand believe that the Steelers are the most talented roster in the league.

    The Giants didn't throw Coughlin out right away. Here are the Giants records after they won the Superbowl in 2011. 2012 - 9-7, 2013 - 7-9, 2014 - 6-10, 2015 - 6-10.

The difference is that the Steelers continue to remain relevant and consistent contenders while Coughlin's teams had losing records for 3 straight seasons. I think if the Steelers had 3 or 4 losing seasons under Tomlin then I believe the organization would look to make a change.

Why? Because they didnt win the SB? You werent right, you had them winning 9 games maybe and definitely didnt have them winning the division.

They put up 42 against the Jags, how many did the Patriots put up? Overrated my ass and the defense was never touted to be the next Steel Curtain.

Brady and the Patriots didn't have to run up there score because their average defense actually made stops on 3rd down and forced Jax to punt. How many 3rd down stops did the Steelers defense get on the Jags?

And yes, if the offense was so damn great... then why did it take them 1-1/2 quarters to get a score? The game was pretty much over by then. Jax was continuously up 2 or 3 scores until the last minutes of the 4th quarter.

We have a very tough schedule, 10 Wins is gonna be a good season, Outside of Division we have Carolina, Atlanta, Pats, Chiefs, Chargers at home, Broncos Jags Saints Raiders and Buccs on the road, other than the Browns, we have no sure wins, i'd be thrilled with 10-11 wins but I could see 8-8 with our current Def

No comparison, Carolina was a 15-1 team favored at home to win that game vs Arizona

Id take Coughlin's two wins over ne and his losing seasons over everything Tomlin has done this far. That will be forever edged in stone. He outcoached belichick where was tomlin hasn't came close to it and looks lost against him everytime.
