While not happy about the second half, after seeing the results of the other games, the Steelers are probably not in much more trouble than a lot of teams in the league.

Bills had a 10 point halftime lead. Had to beat the Bears in overtime.
Bengals had a 15 point halftime lead. Needed a 4th quarter score to beat the Ravens.
Jaguars had a 17 point halftime lead. Got crushed by the Eagles.
Patriots had a 10 point halftime lead. Got crushed by the Dolphins.

I'd be happier if the Steelers could play both halves at a high level, but hopefully it can be fixed after the rookies and younger players get more experience.

I don't want to pour cold water on your thinking, but...in three of those cases, the team making the comeback is a pretty good, playoff-calibre football team, playing at home.

Only Miami's comeback is as big a stinger, but they were only trailing by 10 at the half.

The Steelers' near-miss came against backups on a bad team, with a rookie HC, a QB with a handful of starts. I could have lived with it a little more if the game were in Cleveland. It is doubly shameful to blow that lead at home.

We should have drafted a corner, but at this point there has to be some shlub bagging groceries somewhere that can do better than Ike.

Wheaton didn't surprise me I have been saying all along he will do fine, fans started freaking out after he had a bad game against the Eagles. Wheaton also was my pick as the Steelers player to have a breakout year in 2014.

How is that cold water? I'm just pointing out that the Steelers are not the only team that had trouble this weekend.
You pointed out that pretty good, playoff-calibre teams are capable of having half a terrible game, half a great game. I'm sure fans of their teams are also worried if their teams "are for real".

I'm not trying to say the Steelers are Super-Bowl bound with their current team; just that a common theme on this opening weekend was poor run defense and huge 2nd half momentum shifts. If many other teams are as bad as the Steelers, it seems like the Steelers might also be as good as most teams (even if the fans want better).

Me, too. At one point in the game, I actually thought this had occurred and was quite pleased. Then, Ike got burnt AGAIN and I realized he was still in there for some reason. He is horrendous. How about the ball right in his HANDS in the endzone??? I nearly lost my mind.

Not unusual for NE to lose in Miami, they have done it before, must be the high humidity, but one thing we know Belichick will have a hell week practice and the pats will get back on track, doubtfull if our poor coaching staff can fix all the problems we have before thursday with 1 day of practice....

Is the team for real ?..Jury is still out. Sunday this team was conditioned for 30 mins.of play IMO.They blowed their load in the first and facing no huddle in the 2nd killed them. With fatigue along with the Browns bringing the boys back to earth after being so cocky on the sidelines first half i was surprised we got the W. I just hope this is a learning curve physically and mentally for the team. Lots of work is surely needed going forward.
They best get some work in for the short week.. playing the embarrassed angered rats on their turf is going to be an uphill battle. Your question as to, is this team for real ? Thinking your answer will come late Thursday nite!

Browns game...gave vet Keisel sum love as for.. Ike and Troy.

I've been saying this myself since it happened. Now look at what were stuck with!

  25. I have my concerns about the back end of our D but take a look at the QB's that the Steelers face the rest of the year. It's not exactly murder's row.

    Flacco
    Newton
    Josh McCown
    Henne
    Hoyer
    Fitzpatrick
    Luck
    Flacco
    Geno Smith
    Locker
    Brees
    Dalton
    Ryan
    Alex Smith
    Dalton
