Is playing at less than 100% intensity a safety concern?

Asking a player to let up and play with less intensity certainly helps any opposing team. There is no dooubt in my mind about that. Look no further than the NE TE who gained an extra 15 yards because the CB gave up on the play thinking the other 2 players could bring him down.

Essentially they are asking JH to play with an intensity level that within a split second he has to determine what the opposing player is going to do.
The Colt McCoy suspension is a clear example of him having to know within a millisecond what the other player is going to do which may be one of multiple of different things, one of them happened to be "chuck and duck".

If James were to ultimately let up at the very last moment he then becomes vulnerable to a very serious neck injury that could ultimately end his career. Or he is susceptable to allowing the player to be succesful on the field and then making him less successful which ultimately jeopardizes his position on the team.

I just don't get how a player is supposed to pre-determine how the other player is going to continue with a play when he is right in the middle of the regular speed action giving 100% himself.

This is a contact sport and they want to make it nearly injury free instead of realizing that there will always be potential for injuries within this sport.

    Thoughts?

Saw the same thing with Brady. They flagged Fletcher for a hit on him when he scrambled and then attempted to slide way too late for Fletcher to let-up, they also called blow to the head where he was nowhere even close to Brady's head. Later in the game, Brady was scrambling agian and the defender obviously did not go for the hit then Brady got more yards. What is a defender to do????
