Is our win over the Giants less impressive now that Bengas thumped them?

It was disappointing to see the Bengals do that to them, one because I always want every other team in our division to lose but also because now I wonder if our strong showing was more to do with the Giants playing bad. I know the Benglas are a better team then they have been showing but I was really expecting the Giants to be the ones to win decisively yesterday. I still like what I have been seeing from our team lately, they have improved alot since week 1 but we can't come out with a poor performance against KC tonight. I'll take a victory but I really think we need a strong showing tonight, put away an inferior team the way we should for once.

The Bengals had 3 turnovers vs Gaints, and made the most of them. Dalton made some good throws and got some quick scores, Then boom before you knew it, it was a blow out.

We played them at their house, Bengals had them at home.

Take away some of the BS calls we had against us in that game, and we would have blown the Gaints out too.

The Bengals aren't as awful as you think, we only beat them by 7, so there are more the capable of holding their own.

What kills me more is that we lost to the Titans and Raiders. Which the both lost by more than 30 points yesterday.

I know, I said that. I guess we'll know a little more after tonights game, I don't want another Titans and Raiders game either, that will kill alot of the good vibes we have been feeling.

i've said all along that i don't think we are as good yet as most are making us out to be. we still have alot of work to do. willie colon and max still are not that good, yet a couple of wins and they are off to the pro bowl. the defense has not gone against a qb that's been on for several weeks. lots of football left to go and it's not going to get any easier. i'll be happy if they just keep getting a little better every week, but we are still going to need some changes by next season. this team is nowhere near playoff ready yet. ben is still the glue holding us together this year. he's been playing above and beyond so far. not perfect but very solid. work still left.

I agree with you Mac on some levels, but don't on others.

We will know what we truly are next week after a prime time match-up on our turf with the media darlings of our division. Or maybe it will be in 3 or 4 weeks after we play them a 2nd time on their turf. I don't know, but the league is FULL of mediocrity this year. The AFC has 6 teams with winning records....6. They have 10 teams with losing records. Indianapolis has been outscored by 15 points this year, YET, they have the same record as the NE Pats who have outscored opponents by almost 100. (Incidentally the same record as us as well).

This league has become very unpredictable on the level that when player X, Y or Z gets hot a blowout happens. The league is upside down right now. Would anyone have believed that Baltimore would be 7-2 having the 26 worst defense in yards allowed for BOTH rushing and passing?

It is still early. We are just over half way. Right now, I think this Steeler team is only going to get better as the year goes on as players get healthy...Mendenhall, Brown, DeCastro, Gilbert, Harrison, Keisel, Hampton, Woodley, etc. We have not played our best football yet and I am excited to see that occur in about week 19.

    Not Sure?

Hard to compare different styles against different Teams..But at the end of the day a win is a win and thats what counts the most..I think our beating that we gave them inspired the Bengals,,we beat them a lot worse than the score board showed...Plus Redman gashed them so the Giants spent a lot of time trying to get better against the run this week and boom they got toasted with the passing game.

I agree Mac. We have not peaked yet but we are most certainly moving in the right direction. I full expect this team to get better. We have had more then our fair share of injuries which has kept this team from performing at their level best.

I have some flashes from the younger players and have seen some guys step up that I never fully expected to see get better i.e Keynan Lewis That being said I also have seen some decline which was not expected i.e. Harrison ( yes I know he is coming back from injury but I fear he might not get back to his pre injury self)

The Bengals have talent and can put together some good games. I wonder how hard it was for NY to get up for this game?

Obviously the giants play has been erroded from the storm, their focus and motivation has taken a back seat to the storm, especialy in Eli's performance , untill they get refocused and motivated to win they will struggle, but it's a mental thing and only the coaches can get them refocused during their bye week, they needed this bye week to get back on track, so I expect them to get it ironed out before their next game: When we played them they had the crowd behind them that motivated them to at least put forth a stronger effort to win, more so than what they demonstrated at cincy yesterday: Eli needs to get his head back in the game pretty quick, because as Eli goes, so goes the giants, they certainly played harder against us than they did yesterday........

the Bengals are a pretty good team. they have struggled in some games this year, but they have a lot of talent. sure i wish the Giants would have kiled them. it would have made the Steelers victory against them look better, but it also shows you that the NFC isnt head and shoulders above the AFC like people think.

i'm just as worried about the team in between those two games and the one tonight. harrison is never going to be 100% this season. gilbert mendy and decastro will be hard pressed to be 100% this year. casey is as good as casey is going to be. woodley we never know, but in the last probably 20 games, he's missed alot. other guys are going to have to step it up this year. i'm not seeing that flash from any young guys as of yet. guys we can honestly say they are going to make a difference. solid play but not difference makers. it's going to have to be a team wide effort.

Tonight is a perfect example of a trap game. Giants last week (last year's SB champs) and the Ravens (our largest rival) next week. Yeah, I'm worried about this game in a big way. That being said though, I don't see them beating us, I could see us beating ourselves. The Cleveland game I don't have a ton of worries about. The Steelers know that the in-division rival Browns will be ready to play.

I tend to agree that I don't see an "difference maker" young guys right now, but I honestly didn't expect to. Who was it going to be? DeCastro and Adams, our top 2 picks, are offensive lineman. Adams is playing well and DeCastro, the real prize OLineman in that draft, is sitting at home. Spence, a guy who I thought could splash on our D, is also at home. Ta'amu hasn't even dressed. Rainey is a roll player and will only contribute here and there. Paulson is the same way, yeah he is doing his job, but he isn't going to make difference making splash plays. Robinson, Beachum, and Golden basically haven't played. Butler is a punter. We just don't have anyone on the roster who can do those things who we already don't think of as having been around here a little while.

I understand you point about Casey being as good as he is going to be, but that is just his ligament health, that doesn't include things like game shape. The vets who are injured and have been playing since game 1, should get better as they get more comfortable knowing what their injuries, which ARE healed can take.

The largest difference maker we are missing is #43. I don't care if he sits out another 4-5 games, as long as he is ready a week or two prior to the playoffs.

timmons, carter, worilds, allen, brown, heyward, mclendon, woods. we need some bigger plays or flashes of such from these guys. we need something from them this year so we can make some determination for keeping them next year. are they worth keeping as our future? we have to see something that gives us that kind of hope as future starters. are they going to just remain role players?

I think the fact Haley wants to prove something will help the motivation for this game.

Raiders yes but unless I drank a lot more than I thought I did the Titans blew out the Dolphins yesterday 37 to 3 ? As some of the other posters have said I don't think I remember a year in the NFL that's been as unpredictable as this year. I really don't see any clear cut favorites (just ask Atlanta) although I am starting to think the Texans are for real. I also thought San Fran was the real deal and then came the Rams although I guess they get a pass for Alex Smith being out. I guess the bright spot for us is we're showing improvement from week to week and I'd rather be heading in that direction versus the path the Giants seem to be heading down right now.

Funny, I thought about starting a similar thread. Rarely do I watch ESPN anymore, but I saw Tom Jackson saying that the Giants know that they can turn it on and be great. I wonder, given the turnovers, given the loss the week before, if the Giants somewhat kind of gave up. After all, they are the defending champs, and as a fan base, we should know that teams can play a bit lackluster that next year.

The Giants right now are in first with a cushion. Just so long as they get their act together by the time they play the Rats. Who knows, maybe a loss here and there puts more meaning on that game for them.

Yeah I had on a Steelers hoodie at work today and when I was leaving the security guard said "you guys should have an easy game tonight. The Chiefs suck." and I said "yeah and THAT'S what worries me!" I think people that don't keep up with the Steelers like we do just have this image in their heads of us blowing people out. The reality is something MUCH different and most of us on here realize that.

This was my thought after watching in shock yesterday as the Bungles pretty much destroyed the G-boys. however, I liked tonight how on ESPN everyone kept saying that our last game was "the most complete one we have played all year" and in that game "that was how the Steelers play defense." Let's just hope we keep riding this train tonight!
