I'm not suggesting at all that the Steelers give up on Pickett. The poll was intended to get people's thoughts based off the information that we have.

 

I get that, but it is early enough in his career that "not sure" should be one of the options.

What would be funny is if Reid took over and drafted a flat out running QB. I tell you his head would explode.

 

I think it’s still too early to tell. He’s basically had one season.

Based on what we’ve seen so far, I’d guess no. He could develop into a solid starter, but I don’t see him becoming a franchise-type QB.

He’s still on his rookie deal and the Steelers frankly have other bigger holes (C, DL, ILB, CB), so I think they can roll with him at least another year. It’s not like this team is going to suddenly become a SB contender with a different QB.

 

I like Pickett's intangibles, and he's good in clutch situations late in a game. I mean, the guy doesn't choke, that's huge IMO. However, I question his ability to throw deep, and his overall feel for the game. Hopefully he'll improve in those areas sooner than later. I think he has the potential to be a top 10-12 QB. Whether or not he'll ever be good enough to lead the Steelers to a SB victory, I don't really know

 

What I don't know is, can that ability to read be coached by this point in your football life? All of college and 17 games into the NFL, is this you either have it or you don't or does the game begin to slow down and you can be coached to do this? I'm assuming Warner must be implying it can be? Did Warner miss perhaps that most of the preseason it was man to man coverage and that he can't read zone (Admittedly I don't recall if most of the coverages were man to man in preseason but so many here have said he's not reading zone correctly). I truly hope this is fixable and the concussions didn't impact his processing speed.

Gerry Dulac of the Pittbsurgh Post Gazette alluded to the Steelers and the FO being of the same mindset. Plenty of stellar QB options in 2024. I wouldn't put it past the Steelers to take a look at one of them.

 

For me, he has the capability to be. His greatest enemies are his overaggressive nature when dropping back, him not seeing specific aspects in coverage (doubly Zone Coverage) and being a bit too happy footed in the pocket (though this issue can be magnified via the Offensive Line).



My option isn't available. What I can say is that, as @Blast Furnace pointed out, Kenny is playing for his NFL Future for the remaining 12 games. If he cannot perform well with this... well...

 

Unfortunately, i chose #2. KFP has HFS! I dont know if he can eliminate it, I hope he can. I have seen many a qb with HFS, they never amounted to nothing.

That's the thing. Who is to say that happens? If the Steelers turn it around and the offense improves, Canada may be here next year.

If they fire Canada do you really have faith in Tomlin to bring in a competent offensive mind? Could very well be another college guy.

 

i like kenny. i do think some changes need to be made around him. i would also like to see us draft another guy fairly high with some upside as a backup and have a vet as the 3rd or 2nd for a couple of years to help these two out. not sure mitch or mason are that guy though. maybe like an andy dalton in his final couple of years.

 

Thank you! Kenny has plenty of arm to throw deep but most of the route concepts designed by Canada haven’t allowed him to do so. He’s not Josh Allen, but he has an above average NFL arm.

 

Based on answering the poll question, as of right now, option 2. As of right now of what I've seen so far. I could change my answer as time goes on, but as of right now, option 2. KP is being developed by a team whose 1st QB coach was a few years ago in MC. Before that, Haley part time with also being the OC IIRC. With BR, we didn't have a dire need for one but once he went down, it seemed apparent we did need as the majority of other teams do. Nothing against KP, but I didn't think we would go from one franchise QB to another in one year. How many teams get something that fortunate? We certainly didn't after TBradshaw so I didn't bank on it. I have and always will be a build the OL first and every year we seem to put the cart before the horse. JMO>

 

Canada not going to be fired, his contract expires after this season.

Khan and Weidl best be in Art II's ear with regards to a replacement and keep Tomlin out of it. All of Tomlins assistants are lower tier. Hire an innovative offensive mind who brings in his own staff.

I understand IF they turn this offense around and end up with lets say a 9-8 record that Tomlin will be beating the drum to extend Canada. This is when they give Tomlin an ultimatum. Canada goes you focus on being the head coach and we will hire the new offensive coordinator. Personally I would like to see Puppet Austin replaced but baby steps first. You also don't extend Tomlin.

 

In a perfect world Canada is gone after the season and the Steelers hire the best available veteran candidate.

Reality is Matt Canada may very well be back, and if he's not Tomlin will hire another yes man. This has been the case for years now. If Tomlin wants Canada back, he will be here.

 

I watched the UT/Bama game yesterday and I kept thinking the Bama QB has a great arm. He throws deep, on target, and makes it look effortless. He also throws with nice touch and good accuracy on short-mid routes. BUT I also noticed he stares down his target from the snap. I wonder if that means he's being told pre-snap where to go with the ball or if he's reading the formation and making his own decision where he wants to go with the ball. Either way it's not good and will not translate. That habit needs to be cleaned up before he hits the draft. The rest of it looks great though.

 

What if it's a situation where they don't re-sign Canada, hire a new OC for Tomlin's last contract year, with the expectation the new OC will take over as HC after 2024? Very unorthodox I do understand, but not unheard of.

I honestly think either they buy out Tomlin's final year and hire a new HC for 2024, OR...Tomlin coaches out his contract and a new HC is hired prior to the 2025 season.
