Kickoff returns, yes. They tend to be more about straight line speed because the returner can get up to speed before needing to be evasive. Punt returns no. Also, I think we saw that he had enormous trouble handling kickoff returns once he was faced with NFL kick coverage. I would still use him there, but I would expect feast or famine - i.e. the occasional 100 yard TD, but mostly short returns.

I don't disagree, though in my view Archer's problem was knowing when to take a knee, and not try and break a big return but end up getting stuffed at the 6 yard line.

    It's about maturity and timing.

Yes, he returned kicks for Kent State, in college...

His MAIN role, tho, was as a tailback... he gashed defense on a regular basis, but he was playin in the MAC division,
Not the Big Ten, SEC, etc...

His coach, at the time, later lamented, not using him as a reciever, out of the backfield more often.

Granted, that`s not NFL level competition, on defense, but I`ve seen his speed, over, and over again,

And I think we would be foolish, not to give him more chances, at this level... Just, not "up the middle"...

    Take advantage of his speed.

Use him on screens, misdirections, kickoff returns, etc.... Don`t expect him to take it thru the hole, off tackle, or center...

Delayed draws... Maybe... but, I hate that play, on general principle...

    GO STEELERS!!!

Haley seems to love it... I'm hoping with improved line play the draw will be more effective, but it didn't seem to have too much success relative to the number of times we ran it last year.

to be honest I like him running up the middle as a tailback, just not on 3rd and 1. his quickness to the line is what makes him dangerous and if he gets a small hole he is in the secondary before they know it. that's what he did in school so well. no the MAC isn't the big 10 or SEC but it's no slouch either. we have a few stars from the MAC. ben, AB and Harrison are all from the MAC.

You might have a point there, "MAC"... ;):thumbs_up:

If Pouncey, Decastro, etc, can open holes, fine...

I just think he will be more effective, outside...

When he got to the 2nd level of defense, in college, he wasn`t usually facing guys that get drafted into the NFL, in the 1st round...

Now, he will be... Not saying he CAN`T do it, but he strikes me as more of a threat, if he gets the ball in space, with room to make someone miss, than, "up the gut"...

Then again... Obviously... I`m no coach...

I just want to let him have his chances...

    GO STEELERS!

He's fine with the word midget. He actually hates the term 'little people'. Go figure.

I never understood why "little people" is supposed to be an improvement. That just sounds condescending. If it were me, I'd prefer a technical term... I'm not sure what the correct term is though.

I also think "retarded" is much nicer than "___ disabled", but that's just me. It's not used that way because people hurl it like an insult, but I think it's a better, nicer word. If I was retarded I'd say, "Hey screw you, I'm not disabled, I'm just retarded. Go jump in a lake."

Is everybody talking about me? LOL! I'm trying to think of who is actually shorter. I don't mind being called a midget, little person, dwarf or whatever. I guess if I had a preference I'd just say call me an ewok. LOL.

I'm the same way. I'm like "dude I'm kind of offended that you are trying to go out of your way to not offend me"! LOL! It's like on The Office when no one knew the security guards name and Jim has to call him and he's like "hey are you the...uhh..African..American guy???" LOL! Why even mention Africa at all? If you're born here or attain citizenship you are an American and that's it. It just sounds weird to give people two nationalities ya know?

Honestly I don't think dc actually take him into account for the most part. Yeah sure he is going to surprise you on some level but I don't see him making a huge difference offensively.
