The Steelers traded for this guy, who I will admit I'm not an expert on but I remember seeing him play in Philly and he wasn't bad. I think I read that he played 9 special teams plays and 0 defense? Can someone enlighten me as to why this was? Our secondary looked BAD in that game, and that's being pretty polite I think. I would have liked to have seen him in the game to see what he could have done because honestly, it couldn't have been worse.

He is that good. He should be the best CB we have. Something else is going on . Perhaps insubordination but I think it has to do with him being in Tomlins doghouse. Blake is hot garbage so why would Boykin not be out there..

i'd love to see some coaching upgrades on defense like we did on offense. to some older wiser coaches. it has worked well on that side of the ball.

I think they are trying to keep his participation under the percentage necessary to make the draft pick we gave up a 5th instead of a 4th...lol

I think they Steelers were told in no uncertain terms that they were not winning the game and to make sure they didn't embarrass the Superbowl Champs.

In all seriousness I think Tomlin and creww overthought this one. Hostile stadium loud crowd they wanted a veteran group to make communication easier

God I hope that isn't true. Sacrificing wins (or potential wins) because of 1 draft pick would be sickening and something I would have thought well below the Steelers.

This is what I thought too. If not the best, at least #2? The fact he wasn't even on the field in nickel and dime situations is inexcusable, especially when you take into account how badly this secondary played.

I'm always a glass is half full guy who is optimistic, but we're going into week 2 and I'm already pissed at this coaching staff. Did they do ANYTHING well on Thursday night? Play calling was a joke. Time management looked like the Browns. Personnel management was pathetic (not just with Boykin, why the HELL wasn't Williams running the ball on the goal line????). I shouldn't be this worked up after week 1.

I gave up trying to figure the coaches out. "Next week Vick will be named the starter".

    conditional draft pick

if he plays > 60% of defensive snaps, the Eagles get a 4th round pick

if he plays < 60% of defensive snaps, the Eagles get a 5th round pick

    Yes it makes no sense.

What a bunch of crap. So heh plays 60+% and helps us win some games and that isn't worth a draft pick? I never thought I would be more disgusted with the Steelers than I am right now. Ben isn't getting any younger and how long will this outstanding offense be kept together? It's not a "win now at all costs" mentality, but it should be a "Win SOON" mentality.

Because for some reason when it comes to defensive secondary, particularly corner, this team goes out of their way to make the worst decisions possible.

Do you really think they're not playing him because of that?

Is it possible he doesn't know all the defensive calls and with NE notorious for going no huddle they were concerned he would be out of position or not know the defensive play call? Hindsight is 20/20 so he couldn't have been any worse than some of the plays in which Gronk was literally the only guy in the play with the nearest defender 10 yards away...

I think you're probably right. I think Boykin and Shamarko were sitting for the same reasons. I have a feeling that we'll see a hefty dose of both the longer the season goes.

Boykin expects to play this Sunday. Said he didn't know why he was kept out of the Pats game.

I honestly have no idea. I REALLY hope not, and I trust in this organization enough to give them the bennifit of the doubt that this isn't the reason, but you have to admit, its pretty curious why he wasn't in on 1 defensive play the entire game when he is one of the best CBs on the team. I hope GB's reason (not knowing the playbook yet) is the real reason, but even so I can't believe, given the poor secondary play they didn't put him in there.

Boykin said he is playing this sunday, and he didn't know why they didn't play him. Hope our D improves, more importantly just win the game.

You got to be careful around here. There's a lot of opinions that get passed off as facts.

I heard he was kept out of the game because they didnt feel like he was tall enough to cover a tight-end?

But they should have thought of that before drafting Senquez Golden as well. I say I don't care how tall they are if they are good, send them out there.

From what little I have seen Boykin might be the best corner we have on this team besides Willie Gay IMHO. There are a lot of Eagles fans upset they got rid of him, if he doesn't produce here its on the coaching staff.

As I said earlier I think the coaching staff overthought this one. Given teh performance by the secondary in the preseason I think they opted to go with a more veteran heavy group and switched some positions around. They started Will Allen because normally he is steady not flashy and prone to rookie mistakes, he chose Thursday to decide to prove that theory false. They moved William Gay around so that he was nearer to Allen and Timmons to communicate better which didn't work since they were trying stuff that went against what many of them had ingrained in their heads from DL. Last but not least they all, coaches on down had a huge brain fart and looked like a pee wee team out there.

Wait, was that actually a game they played on thursday? I thought it was just an extension of training camp trying to figure out the best combination of players to have in the secondary.
