I guess we will find out.

I was / am hard on him. He sucked last year. and a couple years earlier, was poor. We will need excellence from him on Sunday. the game very well may rest in his hands (ok - FOOT!) after all is said and done with everything else.

Sucked is a little harsh. He struggled on FG’s between 40-49 yards going 5 for 10 but on FG’s 50+ yards he was 7 for 9 which is pretty darn good.

    Perfect on xp’s too, 18-18.

Don’t know what was going on with those 40 yarders, though.

Yea, he struggled on the 40-49 yarders for sure. Was he hurt?

It’s possible. I think it was the year before that he was battling injuries and truly had a bad season. Maybe he was dealing with that again.

he is paid Top 5 in the league, need him to perform that way. Sunday will be won or lost on his leg, IMO. He'll get 3 or 4 looks at FG, and maybe a look with 1 minute left.....

did not realize he was that strong beyond 50 last year.

but yes, 40- 50 was poor.

XP's - well, he only had 18 chances (that is sad.....!)

18 was bad for him, 19-21 were good years. There was some injury last year, thinking groin. the only real issue was the 40-50 as stated. IDK the timing of those particular kicks, if the injury was directly responsible. In preseason he looked sharp.

It might very well come down to a kick, but if it comes down to relying on him alone all day, then Canada's preseason guru stats were just that. Drives stall and you need the points from your kicker no doubt, but if you are relying on your kicker to get you past 17 points per game average, then your O sucks.

Boswell missed five games last year with a groin injury - got to think that had an effect on his accuracy.

I had lunch with Boz a few weeks ago and ironically he asked me "Is mickeyg ready?" I really didn't know what to say.
personally, I think you'll both be OK this season. :thumbs up:

Geez I don’t remember him missing time at all. Yeah, would imagine a groin injury would do that. Still weird he was better from 50+

Maybe the Steelers should have intentionally taken a false start or delay of game penalty to move him back beyond 50 yards.

Come on, Tomlin! You’ve got to coach outside the box sometimes!

We need a big year from him, we already have
A mediocre punter. We need him to be better.

Winner. Last time he had a so called bad season was after a new contract. I said this when we resigned him.
He was not nearly as bad as people are making out.

He seemed so bad simply because he has created such a pattern of excellence that it made him look bad.

For kickers that have more than 100 kicks in their career he is T-10 all time in FG% according to Football Database. At 86.5 his career numbers are in line with the likes of Stephen Gostkowski and Mike Vanderjagt. Not bad company. His career has been strange in that he has had two seasons really be outliers out of eight. 5 of his 8 seasons have had him with FG% over 90%, which is impressive since the ONLY kicker with a career percentage over 90% is Justin Tucker. He has long stretches of being a top kicker in the league, and then short stretches of being bad. He really is a quality kicker and we've been lucky to have the position locked down as well as we have for 8+ years (remember, he won the job via tryout after we couldn't find someone who didn't suck post Suisham injury).

We need to avoid doing him in on those fake FG attempts. That one against the Browns was brutal.

The league admitted later that it should have been a roughing call on the Browns defender after he launched Boz into the 3rd row.

Let me put your mind at ease. He has a pattern. He came to us in 2015. He had 3 great years, then a suckfest year. After that bad year he had another 3 good years, again to be followed by a bad year. If this pattern holds up, he'll be great again this year, but we might want to cut him in 2026.

well.....I was WRONG here. I WISH he even had a chance to make a difference.

while I am at it, I will go back to Harvin, who FLAT OUT BLOWS.

that too has been pontificated by yours truly for 2+ seasons.

but Tomlin does not seem to care or notice.

we are just an average team.....and seems like Rooney is just fine with it. It was on full dispay Sunday - the difference between elite and .500
