Is blitzing too risky?

I heard some talking heads on the radio discussing blitzing, and they commented that offenses have now adapted so well to blitz packages (maybe because of Blitzburgh days) that it is too risky to try much anymore, as QBs are better skilled at picking up the hot reads. That is actually easier for them to pick up on, as they don't need to go through their progressions. I wonder if that has gone into the current Pittsburgh D philosophy, as the current scheme rarely sees blitzes, but seems to try to confuse QBs with more complex 7 man coverages. This give 'em the short stuff and tackle isn't nearly as exciting as blitzes and sacks, but so far has been pretty successful in keeping people out of the end zone. Another couple games of this and I'll be sold.

 

This will be the only way we will be able to sack the QB.Look for a an OLB with pass rushing
skills to be Steelers 1rst or 2nd round pick next year.

 

This defense the Steelers are playing right now with only sending 4 rushers won't be effective the whole season IMO. Butler needs to turn these guys loose.

Hey, when the year is over and if we only allowed 16 points/game, they can call our defense whatever they want and I`ll be happy.

 

I doubt they'll use the same strategy for every game...

 

I'm hoping when Dupree comes back things will get better.

Its a shame Hayward is banged up, I was hoping him and Tuitt would be getting the sacks early and often.

We put up 30pts against Philly and we win. This team is about the offense reaching its full potential which will in turn really make the defense look good

 

Every game will require a different game plan. I do believe that Butler will crank up the heat generator for some games and rush 3 to 4 on others.

stop the run, get off the field on 3rd down, hold the scores down in the red zone and score like we are capable of doing on offense and we will win many games this year. catch those interceptions that we dropped and the bungirls game isn't even close.

 

Blitzing is not dead, it just needs to be more timely and better disguised...Always better to get more heat with less it always gives you more coverage ...The best way to get extra heat and still have good coverage is confusion ....If we can run great stunts upfront and confuse the OL then we can get some heat ...The reason we are not running a lot of stunts is because we are giving up to much yardage on early downs..We can't stunt in run pass option downs..
