Yes, Ben has his shortcomings as a QB. He's got enough to get the job done, though.

He's having a good season, this season. However, the majority of his career resume closely follows mac daddyo's assessment.

Do you think he'll win the league MVP award this year?

Yikes, didn't mean to get everyone's dander up. I agree Ben is a very skilled quarterback with many upsides, but was trying I figure out if my observation of possibly one of his weaknesses was accurate or a misread on my part. In previous years, I would chalk it up to Ben wanting to sling it deep, but in Haley's offense this seems to have gone away. He seems good with quick timing routes, and he does feel comfortable slinging into tight coverage, but he also seems to do this sometimes when others are more open. It also seems sometimes that his pump fakes are him changing his mind mid-throw, not a ploy to get someone open, but that seems a stretch.

No doubt about it, he s fun to discuss.

sorry didn't read that one before that post. i was responding to acorn and many other ben post before this thread was started. most of the time if we talk about ben at all unless it's rosey , people get very defensive like he's being attacked and stoned and banished from the village.

most quick throws are much less a read but a throw to a spot. most. MOST. hot reads are mostly spot throws. usually made presnap.

i never said ben can't ever make a read. doing it quickly just is not his strong point. pre snap ben is pretty good and knows where he wants to go. i should have stated that. forgive me. after the snap reads and through his progression are what i am talking about or if they change up on him. when i say slow, i mean going to reciver 2 and 3 when his initial read is covered. at that point it turns school yard most of the time. also made the point that it's not all his fault.

he was dumping off early this year. same as early last year. then that goes away for some reason. he was going to dump it off to an open back last week and kept pumping looking downfield pumping looking downfield and then threw it downfield. the back was open, but ben always thinks there's more yardage to be had almost to a fault at times. i will admit he will sometimes look to dump to heath almost to a fault too at times.

it always seems to turn a little heated when ben is discussed for some reason. ben is having a very good season and most of the reason we have pulled some wins out this year. ben thrives on ben play. nobody is going to confuse him with brady or brees anytime soon.

is this offense really running well? really? i see no flow to this offense at all.

I have noticed this, as well. Continue your critique. It is warranted.

I like what the coaches are calling. I think they are putting the players in good positions but there is poor execution. Tomlin and Haley cannot affect players not completing plays.

you guys still upset about my quote? lol Ben is part of the problem he keeps throwing int's when it counts, this is what his 2nd within 3 weeks? It's become his trademark, other D's know this, all they have to do is camp out around the sideline markers, and that'll be his 1st throw= INT

Speaking of making reads, Ben's lack of skill in making reads is the reason he was sacked two times in a row on that last possession in the Cowboy game. He couldn't READ the blitz and audible a dump off, draw or a throw away. He ran the play anyway and just stood there and took the sacks. Not something a 100 million dollar QB should be doing. Just my 2 cents.
