I don't know anyone who says you can move up and down the field at will scoring TD's by taking what the defense gives you. I know I've never said that. I also don't know anyone who said Ben "never" checks down or never throws to open RBs. Maybe you got this from TTF's miss-representation of what I was saying by using " always ignoring checkdowns" , ignoring his wide open slot receivers or " so terrible at pre-snap reads.

It's clear to everyone Ben is not very good at making pre-snap reads AND responding by changing the play. Has he done it, sure he has but its not his strength. He does ignore his underneath guys in hopes of the big play which is why he and Haley struggled to begin with and why he holds the ball for record times. He is doing better at finding the underneath guys, Last year and this year but this is usually when the play breaks down.

One thing is for sure, you've got to be real careful in not only what you say but also how you say it.
Ben is a Great QB. Ben can make pre-snap reads but it isn't a strength. Ben will hit his underneath guys but prefers the bigger plays. He'll never be a dink-N-dunk QB. No-One and I mean No-One knows how other QBs will be behind our OL. Good or Bad. Ben Loves the No-Huddle and Ben hates the wildcat.

Cajun wishes he never started this poll.

At the risk of having what I say misinterpreted, I'll not be checking back into this thread even though there's plenty to pick apart there. Best wishes and go Steelers. :towel:

Agree- Is Ben elite? there's no proof either way, its all subjective and opinions are just that, opinions.

We're all brothers in that we all bleed black-n-gold so its time for this thread to die.

If I've offended anyone in anyway my apologies.......... GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!

This crap is so silly! Ben's a great QB. Elite/great? It doesn't mater the guys a winner plain and simple. Were lucky to have him.

I'm mainly responding to this just because I want to hear Myrons head explode when he sees this back at the top.

Yes, which is why I worded it the way I did. But even aside from that, that play is a bad example, Moye should have made the catch, Bens choice should have resulted in a TD so how was it wrong? Are we blaming Ben for WR not making catch now? Who's to say AB doesn't drop it? Or that Ben throws it high and goes off AB's finger tips and results in an interception and they walk away without even getting a FG.

I noticed that we actually agree on many topics but when it comes to Ben we are miles apart. I don't see how you can put all that on Ben about being a top 5 scoring offense, you do need other pieces around the QB to achieve that status, also game planning comes into account, they didn't start airing it out until BA took over, under Cowher and Whiz they were a much more conservative team. Now you throw Haley into the mix and learning a new offense and that will take a while if ever to produce a top 5 offense. So basically, 4 years of Bens 10 year career was his best chance for a top 5 offense. Who were our best receiver during that time? Holmes? Hines? Not exactly Fitz or Calvin Johnson. Our best RB in those 4 years? Mendy? Not exactly AP. Ben doesn't have to match the consistency of the best QB's in the league as you put it, the argument isn't is he better then those guys and he's not but I would put him 5th and that's still elite IMO.

Been implied plenty, can pretty much come on the board any week and see someone harping on it. So you admit he does do it but what it comes down to is he doesn't do it enough for some fans liking? Yeah well, monday morning quarter backing is great fun but probably a little different when actually playing and have giant men in front of you obscuring your view and others trying to kill you.

And you can say we dont know how other QBs would perform behind our line but you can also say that about Bens pre snap reads, you really have no idea how well he does or doesn't do it, pure speculation as is much of the criticism Ben receives.

Most of the offenses inability to produce more points is a direct result of QB play. Most points come as a result of the passing game. We witnessed flashes of Ben being a great QB but the consistency was never there.

Ben needs to match the consistency and production of the best QB's in the league to be considered elite. If Ben isn't as good as the top QB's in the league then how is Ben an elite QB? Being 5th on the list doesn't mean elite.

On another note, Brady's best days may be behind him.

One thing I know for sure, is Ben is stubborn.
Whether that`s a good thing, or bad thing, is debateable.
I`m glad we have him, for better or worse.
On the play to Moye, yeah, he was decided, before Brown even came across the middle. The ball was already leaving his hand, as Brown was coming open.
Sometimes decisiveness is a good thing.
Not necessarily, meaning, that he can`t "read" defenses pre-snap.
He just made his choice, and went with it.
I won`t try to define "elite", but I love the 2 rings he helped us get, and all the chances we have had, by at least getting to the playoffs, during his career.
I want to see him re-capture the "magic" of his early career, as far as being "clutch", and confident.
Hate when he gets that "deer in the headlights" look, behind the line of scrimmage.
The young Ben, never had that look.
Then again, the Young Ben hadn`t wrecked his bike yet, and still thought he was immortal, like most young men.
    GO STEELERS!

Still need the pieces around the QB. NE's offense is a shell of itself this year, why? because the other pieces are missing.

I don't think he has to match those guys, he brings other elements to his game that those guys don't have, doesn't mean they aren't elite either, Bens just different. And being 5th on the list isn't what makes him elite, I just meant I feel there are 5 elite QB's in the league, maybe 6 counting Eli.

I've never liked Eli and I never will. I will give him one thing. He can take a hit better than Peyton and is willing to do it. I can't stand the Manning's and I never will be able to.

Every time I see Eli calling an audible at the LOS and going through all of his pre-snap machinations like he does, I can't help but think "oh look, honey, isn't that cute? He's trying to pretend like he's his older brother, Peyton." :lolol:

I haven't been an Eli fan since him and daddy decided they didn't want to play for the Chargers and pitched their little tantrums until they got their way.

That first MVP I think should have went to a defensive player. I think the MVP usually goes to the guy with the most spectacular play and escaping the grasp and throwing up that prayer to Tyree gave it to him. But for that defense to hold THAT offense to 14 points is pretty dang spectacular and they were in Brady's grill all night. I would've given that MVP to probably Tuck or someone like that. If the Pats had won I really don't know who I would've given it to but I guess since Brady made that late TD pass to Moss he probably would've gotten it.

Is Jim Plunkett elite? He won two Super Bowls and was named MVP in one of them. The football gods poured out their favor on Eli on two plays, the Tyree helmet catch and the long pass to Nicks, but I don't think that makes him elite. Shoot, I voted that Ben was not elite so I dang sure don't think Eli is.

You can try and diminish it all you want, fact is, he is a 2 time SB MVP and all I am saying is it's not such a joke to even consider it like Myron is acting. Eli has been pretty freaking clutch. He's a lot better then he gets credit for.

I don't care if Bens not playing up to par this year. He's still done this team a world of good (overall). Besides, lets see how he does after leading us to 2 wins in a row -and how he fairs against those feisty Raiders today in Oakland.

Anytime someone questions Ben's talent, I just can't help but to revert back to SuperBowl XLIII against Arizona. He may or may not be the greatest guy off the field, but on the field -the mans got game ...PERIOD

    Brees
    Rogers
    Brady
    Ben

    Eli M
