Is Belichick now in the Chuck Noll level?

Aren't Bill Belichick and Chuck Noll the only two coaches to win 4 Superbowls? I believe so.

 

Yes, and Noll-Bradshaw and Belichick-Brady are the only HC-QB combos to win four. N-B did it in 6 years and it took B-B 14.

 

Yeah as much as I hate to give it to them, I think you have to, I'll be glad when they(Brady and Belicheat) are out of the league, that much is for sure.

To win so consistently in the era of free agency is impressive. As much as I don't like it, any comparison or talk of "best ever" for Belichick/Brady is warranted.

 

How many years of true dominance did Noll have in his career compared to how many Bill has had in NE? That's an honest question. Seems to me the answer to this question should answer the original question by default.

 

One pair got caught cheatin' TWICE! The other pair did it the honorable way IMO! So no!

 

I think BB is better, maybe the best Xs and Os coach of all time.

But these comparisons are difficult to make. Give Noll DVDs, tablets, PCs...who knows what he does. Or what Shula or Landry do, either.

 

In my mind it is impossible to compare QBs across eras due to the extreme rule changes. I also think it is impossible to compare coaches across eras due to the free agency and the salary cap. In the days of Noll and his peers it was much harder to get good if you were bad and much easier to stay good once you got good. The Pats continued success in this era is unlikely to ever be repeated in my opinion. Doesn't make them any better or worse than Noll's Steeler, they just had different problems to solve.

 

This. All you can do is compare a coaches (or players for that matter) success vs the success of his peers at the time of his career. Comparing different eras is impossible. Belichek is quite clearly ahead of every other coach in the league. He wins a lot, and he does it regardless of how many talented players he loses. That team never misses a beat, even when they lost Brady they still had a ton of success with a terrible QB that couldn't cut it as a starter anywhere else. All Belichek does is win. It's not just that, he always seems to shut down the other teams best players. He game plans better than any coach in the league and always seems to limit other teams star players.

it amazes me how after this game people are willing to say their name among the best. so spygate wasn't a big deal to anyone? I am not saying that the reason they beat the colts is because of footballs but I seriously doubt it was the first time they done it. the nfl destroyed the tapes from before and will probably cover this up too.

it is just hard for me to give them that much credit when I know they cheat. I doubt they have been caught everytime they have. they will never be as good in my opinion. they will always be tarnished

I don't get this conversation, who is better? We don't know because they coached in different eras. It is like comparing Montana and Brady. Two different eras.

Chuck Noll was the best for his era. Only a few coaches from his era are worth mentioning, Tom Landry and Don Shula.

Bill Walsh was at the top of his era, but is joined by Joe Gibbs, and Bill Parcells.

Bill Belichek is the best coach for this era. It pains me to say that, but it is true. Not only does he have the most championships in the last 20 years, look at his win/loss record, number of division championships, and number of playoff wins.

Could anyone, without a doubt say that if any of these men coached all together at the same time, during each of their primes, who is better? No, you can't. So just have a top 5 of all time. Chuck Noll and Bill Belichek belong on that list, no question.

Will Mike Tomlin ever make it? In January 2011, I say yes. He was 5-1 in the playoffs, winning 3 div championships, 2 Lamar Hunt trophies, and 1 Lombardi his first 4 years, No one was better his first 4 years. Since then, no way. He is 0-3 in the playoffs, with 2 8-8 seasons. Over the last 4 years, BB, Hairball, and Pete Carroll have all been better. Hell, Marvin Lewis has been better these last 4 years. I sure hope Ben adds to his own personal ring collection over the next 4 years. But I think this team, from the Rooney's down to the punter need to get better in order to do that. The two teams you saw last night were the best two teams in the league. Few others could come close.

 

Not in the era of free agency and salary caps. 4 in 6 will never happen again. I suspect 4 in 14 won't been seen again either in this era.

 

Unfortunately the Pats aren't done as a SB contender either. They may not win another one again anytime soon, or they could win another 1 or 2 during Brady's career. It could very well end up being 5 in 16 years, or 6 in 18 years.

 

one big difference is that Noll had 9 HOFs and Belichick has on 1 HOF (Tom Brady) throughout those 4 super bowls.
If you think that is why the Steelers did it in 6yrs and Belichick took 14yrs to get the 4th trophy. But it's amazing how the pats have done it without many HOFs. I think back in the 70's there were tougher competition than these days.
I think the 70's Raiders were just as good as the Steelers.

 

It's absolutely crazy to me that so many of you can continue to be delusional about the Patriots' success.

BB has established himself as the Greatest Coach of All-time. I absolutely hate to admit it, but you are talking about a team that has completely dominated the league for over 14 years. They are a few miracle plays away from having a team with a perfect 19-0 record and 6 Super Bowls. This being done in the free agency era with radically different teams from year to year. In addition, they were able to do this during a much more competitive era with many all-time great QB's (Manning, Rodgers, Big Ben, etc.) They have totally dominated their division and they consistently reached AFC championships and high seeds year after year.

I understand many are STILL upset about Spygate- get over it. And Inflategate? They won the game by 30 points!

Let's please not act like our Steelers were not under a shady cloud of possible steroid use. That in my mind is a much more significant competitive advantage. I'm not taking anything away from it, but the continued bitterness regarding the Patriots' success is mind-numbing.

I went years and years trying to argue that the Pats were somehow illegitimate. Trust me, it is much easier when you arrive at the correct conclusion that they have established themselves as the Greatest Coach and Greatest QB of all time. Just accept it.
