I was just checking something about the teams the Steelers faced down the stretch last year and noticed something.

In the Steelers 8th game last season, they lost 55-31 to NE

In their 8th game this season, they won 51-34

    Found that pretty cool.

Good thing we're playing winter rules and took that mulligan. The replacement shot was awesome.

Something I'm curious about - all other things being the same - how would Sunday's game against Indy have played out if.................it had been played at Indy? Would our passing stats have been anywhere what they were or perhaps even reversed with Luck getting his first 500+ yd game? Only way we could have pulled off a similar outcome I think would have been to have a similar quick start and early defensive TD and take the indoor crowd out of the equation or diminishing it at least. Sure glad it was at home and helps pave the way for a home playoff game should we have a rematch and should we even make it that far.

Interesting, but it don't matter. We won a good game against a good team.

That's more like coincidence than irony. ;)

But a pretty cool coincidence, all the same!

You remember that Alannis Morrisette song "Ironic"? Well did you know that most of the stuff that actually happens in the song isn't actually ironic? However, THAT IS ironic. Don't you think?

    Is it? :hmmm:

I would think coincidence would be if they got whupped by that score again but since they did the whupping, doesn't that make it ironic??? :lolol:

I look at it as progression, dividends from their labor and yes ironic. ;)

Lol. I almost hated myself for posting that. Internet discussions of what irony is rarely end well. Or end at all.

I guess irony is in the eye of the beholder, mainly, as it's not one of those words that can be defined strictly. I was just being a smartarse, tbh.

The fact that most Brits use it as proof that Americans don't understand irony, even though Alanis Morrisette is Canadian, is also ironic.

This thread is a fun read. I'm late to the party and some of my better responses were already made. :roflmao:

An old teacher of mine once told me that coincidence is easy to define. If it's coincidence, then it isn't irony. ;) (And I agree with above: arguments of irony vs. coincidence rarely reach a consensus)

Ironically, I've written a book on irony, but still struggle to define it.

I may have derailed the thread, though.

More good culture on the subject: An episode of Futurama called "The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings." The definition of irony is a bit of a running theme. The main reason I recommend it, though, is it also happens to be one of the best episodes.

Coincidentally, that's one of my favorite episodes. Any episode with Robot Devil is a treat.

Well me and my wife were just debating over what is actually irony and I was talking about how the song Ironic isn't really irony and she was trying to tell me how it really was. You can't tell a woman nothin' man. LOL!
