My mind changed on this after a (I think) Colts/Bucs game. The Colts were behind so badly that I gave up and turned the game off. Somehow, Manning brought them back and won.
You're right comparing Ben to Favre. Big arms, hold the ball too long, prone to throw really stupid INTs, don't always listen to the coach...…..

Manning really wasn't a guy one would want on the last drive until late in his career. He did know how to finish when he had the lead though. I like Ben in a must score situation better.

Ben will have to now not play to a strength of a couple of go to guys and play to the weak link that the defense gives him. He will have to find that weak link and quickly. I could see some early struggles with him holding the ball while he searches. This is where I think Ben should be practicing more and mt not giving him these half practices and days off. This will be different for him. It could also increase the injury risk of him holding the ball more, even a split second longer.

I can't watch ESPN or NFLN anymore. I think with Bob Ley retiring there are no more actual journalists there. Just talking heads who are looking for ratings and nothing of substance. It's what the NFLN went to about a year after release. They've turned into paradies of themselves. Its' sad really.

I've never quite understood the whole "which QB would you want when you're behind in the 4th with 2:00 to play" argument as a barometer for who the better QB is.

You know which QB I want? The one that is always kneeling on the ball with 2:00 to play. The one that put the game away in quarters 1-3 and doesn't have to come back in the late stages of a game.

So just for fun I looked at some QBs and looked at their "non-4Q comeback winning%". (Total wins-comeback wins)/(total wins+total losses)

    Brady, 0.644
    P. Manning, 0.565
    Rodgers, 0.548
    Ben, 0.527
    Brees, 0.515
    Rivers, 0.422

I'm really not saying this is any kind of measure of how good a QB is, just presenting it as a different way to look at things then the "which QB would you want when you're behind in the 4th" thing.

In a perfect world. The problem I see with this is that if the game is already won by the 2:00 warning, the guy that comes in is frequently the 2nd stringer. I'm sure you don't want that guy as your starter.
Looking at the stats you came up with, I'll still take Manning. There's no way to tell how many of Brady's wins came as a result of cheating, either by him or the coaches.

Skip Bayless is not credible, but at least he's funny ... His replacement in espn Max Kellerman is just garbage

Ben has 144 wins in his career, he is 5 win away to surpasses Marino and Elway for the regular season win, he has one of the best winning percentages in NFL history and he is likely to have over 60,000 yards at the end of the 2019 season.

But Ben is supposedly one of the 5 players with the most to prove in the 2019 season by espn ...

That's ridiculous! ... He's 37 years old and he's been in the super bowl 3 times, been in the AFC title game 4 titles before the killer B's era ... He has winning many ways in his career,he had a lot of success with so many WR , the only thing he needs to prove is that he can still be good at 37 years old, but it's the same for every old QB

If Ben is on this list, Rodgers deserves to be on this list ... Outside of the end of the season in 2016, the packers have done nothing since 2015 and Rodgers was not impressive .... His team finished at 6-9-1 last year.

    Since 2012, the NE defense rankings (by points) were 9, 10, 8, 10, 1, 5, and 7.
Three of those years the Pats didn't reach the Super Bowl. Take a wild guess which ones they were.

To go back to the OP, the 2 dominate defenses last season (Bears and Ravens) reached the playoffs, but lost in the wild card round.
But looking at the past 7 Patriot seasons, they reached the Super Bowl when they had a top 8 defense (by points).

The Steelers defense rankings the last 4 years was 11, 10, 7 (all playoff seasons), and 16 (did not make the playoffs). The defense needs to be better, but doesn't need to be dominate for them to have a good shot at reaching the SB. (Of course it doesn't hurt if they are.)

The Patriots have always been in the top 10 in PPG on defense in the Brady and Belichick era outside of the 2002 and 2011

Also, the 49ers defense in the years of Montana are the most underrated defense in NFL history .... In the last 3 super bowl win by Montana (1984,1988 and 1989), the 49ers defense gave 78 points and only 4 offensives TD to their opponent in 9 playoffs games!!!!

In 2008, the Steelers defense gave 61 points and 8 offensive TD in 3 playoffs game ....

thats crazy. 2008 defense was pretty damn good but yeah they would not be up there with the 85 bears, 2000 ravens

The whole cheating thing is overblown imo, because I think every team is pushing the envelope all the time. Heck, weren't we docked draft picks due to skirting the cap? But whatever.

My alternative view to the "who would you want as your qb with 2:00 to go on the fourth" is based on the fact that there's very little to the good teams win close games philosophy. No, good teams don't have a lot of close games. They win comfortably. The same goes for qb's. I want the guy that doesn't have to come back from behind.

I understand and yes I would like the steelers to have more blowout win, but at the same time in the NFL, whether this is in the Playoffs or in the regular season, you have to be able to win close games and be able to come back from behind, since this is impossible to always have easy wins without adversity, especially against good teams

The Pats have won the Super Bowl 6 times in the last 2 decades and, outside of maybe 2004, no other playoffs run by the Patriots have been dominant at every playoffs games.

Skirting the cap is a bit different than videoing other teams' practices...…….

    You're right.

I would say skirting the cap is worse.

And they weren't taping practices iirc, but games

Nobody would have to video another teams game. Just tune in to NFLN. At the very least, they videotaped Steelers and Charger practices.
Do you REALLY believe skirting the cap is worse than, knowingly, taping an opponents closed practices and manipulating game equipment? Or are you just being argumentative?

I agree, sometimes watching ESPN and NFL lately is sickening with anti Ben, especially the ex football players.

I can't watch these networks football programming either other than the games. They are all about the Cowpies & Cheats.
