Blast, I just think if a person is gonna be tried,convicted and executed then ALL the facts MUST be considered and not just selected ones. We also have to be careful gauging public figures character traits good and bad because if we're honest very few of the ones we lift up deserve it just like the ones we tear down don't deserve it either.

That's all. If Richie was a bad as being portrayed others would be coming out against him from his team. Paula Deen isn't a racist but a "racial slur" 30 yrs ago cause her to loose every endorsement and business partner and tv show she had. Lynch Mob mentality many times is much much worse than the crimes committed.

I agree that all of the facts should be considered. But those casting doubt on the charges against Incognito are doing much the same thing as what you're criticising here, Cajun. Except rather than be selective, they're also adding a whole load of extra trimmings to the story explaining his actions, based on very little except speculation, and nostalgic tales of their own locker rooms.

I'm also not sure that filling out the gaps in the story by making out it's part of a wider cultural thing (i.e. the "racial slur" thing) hardly gets us closer to the facts.

 

Ward was considered around the league and by opposing fans the dirtiest player in the NFL for his violent cutback blocks yet we the Steeler fans loved it with cheers. Sorry you missed the invite.

All across the league with both players and fans. Hines Ward was considered a very dirty player. By Pittsburgh standards we considered that to be tough. I celebrated big time when he broke Kieth Rivers jaw on a clean hit. Not because Rivers was injured but because it was tough football the way the game was meant to be played. I was at that game. My wife told me to basically sit down and shut up cause Bengals fans were ready to jump me.

Now all of a sudden everything has to be politically correct in society and hard hits are considered to be dirty and cheap even when they are clean.

The ironic thing is that Incognito was told to toughen up a player and when doing as instructed he becomes a scapegoat and coaches are nowhere to be found in defending him. I don't fully agree with his methods but was he expected to take him to an amusement park and have him ride a big scary roller coaster instead?

The WWE made their living off of these antics and now all of a sudden peoples feelings are getting hurt.

with the way this team has played the last few seasons and with them being on a down swing i just dont see the Rooneys bringing in a guy with such a shady past.

sure Hines was considered a dirty player, but he was a Steeler from the start. Incognito isnt and i just dont see them bringing a guy like that in. plus its not like hes great. hes an ok lineman. if he was great the Dolphins would bring him back.

I think there's a big difference though Cajun. I could be wrong but I don't remember people claiming Ward tried to gouge their eyes out or was ever accused of punching players in the game. Incognito on the other hand has been accused of such acts. Ward laid monstrous hits on defensive players and they didn't like that. That's basically what it boiled down to. I never saw him as dirty but of course we fans look at our players a little differently than we do other team players, but I don't see any type of comparison between Incognito and Ward.
