I doubt Chicago would have any interest in Bush.

We should be playing Mark Robinson and at least seeing what he can do in a game.

I wonder what the pass defense stats are for the ILBs. Pass defended, completions, yards, etc.

Beat me to it. I will say though that he has looked better, but he set a pretty low bar last year for comparison.

I was looking at various sights at stats.
PFF ranks Spillane fairly well, about what I would expect for a Depth/Rotation guy.

It's hard to rank by tackles, so it would seem to me.
If it is a good defense and gets a lot of 3 and outs, you're not getting many tackles.
If it is a poor defense and can't get off the field, you're getting a lot of tackles.

Smith for Minnesota leads the league in TFL and he has fellow LB Hunter right behind him, that's a good stat.
Highsmith is the first Pittsburgh LB at 17th and the only 1 in those stats.
But this is all positions mixed in.

Jack is a solid signing; you probably want to keep him going forward but you want to bring competition for him too.
This is Bush's last season; he's probably going to walk. No biggie.
Spillane is a good depth guy, but all depth guys should have to compete for spots.
You could probably pickup a good ILB either way; draft or Free Agency.

Jack stays and the other two can go. Both are UFA after this season. Robertson will be in the mix next season.

    Need a definite upgrade.

Although I can see Tomlin rah rahing to sign Bush to a one year deal like Edmonds since he has improved so much

Agreed. I wanted an upgrade but he came back home because no team seemed to want him. He has raised his stakes and will get some play on the open market. Kazee I feel will be resigned to take his place.

I don't disagree but have some observations I've seen in camp.

Robertson is a 7th round pick and kind of small. 5'11" ~230 or so, didn't really impress me much.
Allen is thinner and taller and slimmer LB which doesn't impress me much either.
Jones has the size, but I haven't seen the skills.

Those three reside on the bone pile (Compete and either win or lose)

Reed has nice size and has shown some ability.
Spillane is a guy you can trust but needs to win his roster spot.

    Those two you could keep

Jack falls in the middle of the above group and the below group

    TJ - Game wrecker...
    Highsmith - Coming on strong.

Bush is most likely not a consideration. I have seen him improve since last season but that isn't saying a lot. Could he be kept as a capable backup? I won't want to go there. I don't get the impression Tomlin is impressed with him either.

So you've got 3 that should return to the roster.
3 more that can be on it if they survive camp.
and a lot of competition room, (via draft/sign)

Just stop. I grant you that some people overrate Shazier, but he was a good bit better than average. The defense fell apart when he got hurt. He wasn't dominant, but he did everything well. His speed and intelligence allowed him to take on more responsibility. His only real drawback was his poor tackling technique. His instinct was to launch himself head-first at ball carriers. That led to some missed tackles and it was what got him hurt.

Well if He signs a one year deal like Edmunds....You kinda must keep Him.
    That's a great deal/cheap deal.....even if He's just a backup for it.
Doesn't mean We can't get, or bring in other help at the position.

    A 5th for a half of a season is a lot

And he is going to think he deserves big money
