So I have said for a long time we could sign a guy for 4/25. Looking at who has signed and for what I think there is still a chance:

    Hitchens - 5/45 AAV 9m
    Davis - 3/24 AAV 8m
    Williamson - 3/22.5 AAV 7.5m
    T. Davis - 3/15 AAV 5m
    Jones - 2/7.7 AAV 3.8m

So with Bowman and both Browns(Zach & Preston) I have a feeling one of these guys could be ours, at least I am hopeful. Now there are also a couple other names to think about who would be cheaper D. Johnson and Timmons. Now before you say no way to these two if we miss out on the top 3 left I feel one of these two(DJ or LT) could be a nice tutor for our 1st or 2nd round rookie to learn from. Thoughts?

I'm going to say LT is out. According to Steelers Depot there is apparently some heat between Tomlin and LT. I am assuming this lead to LT not being retained a year ago. Seeing how LT has his awol incident with Miami, I'm not sure the Steelers have interest.

Derrick Johnson would be a great pick up for us. Draft an early round backer and DJ is the perfect stop gap until he's ready. Solid veteran player who can be had cheap. Sign me up.

Yeah I read that article about LT and was curious what the deal was between MT and LT. I think if we miss out on the top 3 left DJ could be a very good plan B at the right price.

I agree didn't put him on my list but another good option. I remember a lot of talk about him when he was coming out in the draft.

What type of MLB are you looking for and how are they to be used? Everyone seems to be basing their predictions, forecasts and thoughts on finding Shaker 2.0 and we saw how that played out, 3 guys trying to fill one role. Ryan was a one of a kind and they were using his speed and talent to cover for multiple problems caused by the scheme they were trying. Copying that just won't happen however trying for a Foote/Farrier or Timmons/Farrior model might work better

All these guys you mentioned a horrible in coverage with he exception of Zach Brown who we won' be able to afford. Most of the ilb are gone that would have been good signings.

No way the Steelers would sign a 35 year old D. Johnson for ILB, getting older and slower doesn't help the defense at all.

Trade a 5th rd pick to the Eagles for Mychal Kendricks, he can be your starter until the rookie is ready to play.

I am a big believer you don't try to replace Shazier you try to fix that position. First you make sure you get a guy that can tackle both Browns are good at that, then with fixing safety that will help the coverage side. Also I think there are some really nice ILB's in this draft that can do both. A lot of people aren't looking at the upgrade at S as to helping with the loss of Shazier, this will be key. If we get a S that can cover instead of having Mitchell back there that will help.

Steelers are not going to be able to afford a Safety better than Mitchell. They will be picking from the scrap heap in free agency.

I guess we will have to wait and see but it won't take much to be better than Mitchell. Guess I look at the glass half full instead of a lot of you guys who look at it half empty with your doom and gloom attitudes........:smiley1:

If I had a better solution I would have posted it. I just find it hilarious that there are so many posts about all these free agents that the Steelers are not going to make a serious run at. Not directed at you just at the situation when we pretty much know the Steelers won't be pulling the trigger.

FYI Zach Brown signed for 3/24 8 AAV pretty much right about where I thought he could have been had really wished we were in on him. I guess now I am hopeful for Preston Brown......

Preston Brown signed a 1 year deal with the Bengals, cross him off the list.

Just think of how much Tuitt and DD freed up, the same can be done with Ben and Pouncey the only exception is we would extend them not restructure which is better long term. Also Still guys out there to cut Sensabaugh, Wilcox and yes Vance(bring him back lower) the money can be there......
