I believe that cutting Ike would save us about 2.6 million against the 2013 cap. So, to look at him in context you have to think about whether you would sign him to a 1 year, 2.6 million contract if he was not current under contract. The rest of the money in his cap charge will hit us with or without him. Ike started the season (and ended the previous season's playoffs) playing like a $500k rookie, but from mid-season until his injury he was easily a top 10-15 corner in the league. He had some games during that stretch where he really dominated. It's not easy to hold AJ Green to 1 catch for 8 yards. A top 10-15 corner makes a lot more than $2.6 million. In my mind, the question is can he do it in 2013, and does keeping him for a pretty low cost of $2.6 million somehow harm us down the line? I say keep him in 2013 and re-assess him in 2014 when the savings would be $7 million from cutting him (a very different decision).

Ike Taylor is Dan Rooney's boy, he won't be going anywhere to soon.
Ike is what he is, a servicable cb that will hit.Could be moved to the safety
    position in a few years.

I used to understand better, but according to the link in the OP, I think cutting him saves $6M against the cap as thats his base salary. I thought that it was the base salary that goes away when you cut a player, but the bonuses that count against the cap. I could be wrong because Ive forgotten exactly how that works.

    Help me out here...

Never mind. Im forgetting about 2014 bonuses that are accelerated forward. My mind is a little slow this early in the AM. Now Im seeing the roughly 2.6M savings.

ike is the only vet back there at corner with this young group too. we also don't know how well lewis fairs against #1 receivers every game.

i'd keep ike this year. move him to the # 2 spot and move lewis to the 1 receiver. keep allen at the nickle for now.

browns the guy i want to know about. he's a little hard to figure. i know i haven't been overly impressed so far.

why did we bring king in at that amount?

i don't think ike's money will be the if we do or if we don't sign lewis. not tendering sylvester saves 1.3 mil. alone.

now next year i could see the cut of ike OR ask for a pay cut and move to safety. clark will be a FA by then and troy will have one left, so alot of money will open up by the end of next year at DB. the safety spot has changed from what it used to be and with ike's coverage back there, i think he could play a couple more years at FS.

find the money and sign lewis, but don't go into the season hoping our youth can hold it down for a year, just to save 2.6 mil. on a proven guy thats done it for more then one year.

players go through bad streaks, it happens. he turned it around is what matters. i think lake has helped him too.

Well if the 1st season is cap friendly then why not keep Ike another year?

Keenan is looking for 5 years 35 mill. I have heard we could have a cap number of 3 mill or so by doing this deal and cutting Ike would be pretty close to even. I wouldn't be terribly dissapointed if they kept both, but i really want to address some other needs via free agency and not sure we could really do it if we kept both.

I feel that we have developed some terribly weak spots that i'm not sure we could make a run at a super bowl unless they are adressed (ILB, RB, LG). I don't believe we can find all rookies (maybe 1) or players currently on the roster to fill these spots on a super bowl capable team.

Good news, thank you lord, you always told me believe and keep faith and you will handle the rest. It's a secret, I'm not telling nobody what it is either, just know I am about to turn up.

I actually think it does hasn't he said he doesn't want to leave the Steelers. Most of the younger player have seen a lot of guys come back and a a lot of retired players that left say there's no place like Pittsburgh. Not all of them but to some of them that means something. He is surrounded by guys from Louisiana yeah he is losing Wallace his life long friend but they seem like polar opposites. Throw in coach Lake and why would he want to leave.

Free agency hasn't started yet that would be tampering.

And Willie Gay had a great year as a nickle. Made him a starter and it was like Rooney threw a turd on the field. He did have a good year the 2nd year

Ok, if you were starting a team, and you have both Ike and Lewis for one year only, and you had to pick one of them. My choice right now would be to keep Ike. Don't forget how good he is also against the run also. Lewis is not close to him in that area. Both can't catch, and they are about even now in breaking up the pass and in coverage.

I'm an Ike guy but, in that Scenario i think i'd keep Lewis....When Ike got hurt Lewis got the #1 Wr assingment and his play didn't drop off at all...After the first couple games when Ike was playing bad it's looked to me like we were rotating coverage to Ike's side a little and it defiantly helped..Was also around the time they pulled Mundy and replaced him with Allen.....After that mover i thought our secondary played really really well......

Stats, schmats. If you look at stats, Mark Grudzielanik was a better shortstop than Honus Wagner. (singing) Take your stats and shove it, they don't work here any more.

If you're pulling out a protractor and slide ruler and determining Keenan Lewis is better than Ike Taylor then I think you have a flaw in your scientific method.

Ike was leading the NFL in pass interference penalties? Ike was also the benificiary of some of the worst pass interference calls I've ever seen. Makes me think YOU didn't watch all the games last season! I was in the seats at Heinz for the Jets game to witness the worst call I've ever seen in over three decades of watching professional football when Ike was called for pass interference while standing about five yards from a receiver he never made contact with. I'm not going to condemn Ike for judgement calls by old men.

Passer rating is your big stat? So, if Ike gives up a dozen four-yard passes and immediately drops the receiver, that's worse than, say, Keenan giving up only 2 out of 12 completions against him, while intercepting a pass, but those two completions go for touchdowns?

Really! The whole idea with Lewis is to make us great against the pass. It has killed us in recent years.
