no way. he would cost us near 7 mil. in dead money alone. lewis is not a #1 corner either. ike stays healthy, the broke ankle was a fluke for him. he's the steelers iron man.

Lewis is 27 and was 2nd in the NFL in pass breakups with 23 (Ike had 13 in 12 games) and passer rating was 74 when throwing his way. Ike is 33 and has played poor ever since the Denver game last year. After 6 games last year opposing QB's rating was 118(couldn't find stats through the full 12 games he played). Ike has also been a penalty machine as of late.

Steelers need to make a decison, resign lewis and get rid of Ike (not sure if they can make it work without and still have money to address other areas of need) or let lewis walk and find Ike's replacement in Free Agency or the draft in the next year or two.

Another note, Cortez Allen surrendered a 68 QB rating when thrown at and was top 5 in the league at that.

You know why ike had a lot less it's because qb had no choice but go at Lewis. If you have to choose between throwing at ike or throwing at Lewis you are throwing at lewis. Ike is always on the other teams best wr and normally shuts them down.

ike was bad early last year and turned it around. penalties and such were early in the year and then ike was very good for most of the season until the injury. cortez plays nickle and has alot less thrown at him. yes he and lewis had a low qb rating against them, but all the rest wasen't just against ike. RB's TE's are not his responsibility. ike also supports the run like no other corner. i'm not sure why they want to pick on and cut the guys that actually were on the field playing and keep guys that make as much if not more money and don't. we want to cut JH and ike but give troy and woodley passes. ike also played every down the last 3 years while lewis sat on the bench collecting game checks. besides it cost us way to much to cut him.

Wrong! Where i found the stat on Ike's QB rating when thrown at after 6 weeks it also said Ike was targeted 8.56 times per game at that point and Keenan was 7.3. At this point in the season he was also leading the NFL in Pass Interference penalties. He also was 2nd in the league in TD's given up. You can't keep making excuses for him.

Makes me think you didn't watch all the games last season or at least pay attention to them and are just going off his reputation from the past.

so you honestly think that this secondary is better without ike? that makes me wonder if you watch the games or just look at stats

My point is I don't know if you can afford both and at some point a decision needs to be made. Do you resign 27 year old Keenan Lewis and cut Ike, do you let Keenan walk, keep Ike and find a replacement in the next few years, or try to resign Keenan and keep Ike then sacrafice somewhere else that needs help.

Thats the decision that the steelers will need to make. My vote is to resign Keenan and cut Ike.

This past season and in the future... YES!!! If it was the Ike of 5 years ago that would be different.

Stats don't lie buddy. Ike was horrific this past season.

oh i understand. well its a tough choice. did lewis play good because he was wanting paid or did we see the real lewis? i worry about him just wanting paid because the previous years he kinda sucked

if stats dont lie, we are having this discussion in another post, larry foote was very good this season. i think he was second on team in tackles. only point i will make is you can pick and choose stats to make everyone look good or bad. what if i said lewis had more holding penelties than ike

I can see that point. I hope our Front office can figure that out. My personal optinion is he was just young and has started to come into his own. I'm happy that the money he is asking for won't break the bank too bad. If he will be respectful to the steelers organization and take a good deal but not something that kills us capwise, i'm good with that.

As for Woodley and Troy getting a pass and Ike and JH not. The reason is bc of age. Woodley and Troy's issue were more conditioning based and not that they are running up against their window of time. Troy is getting there a bit but still younger than Ike and JH ( 1 year younger than Ike and 3 years younger than JH). Troy's upside as a player is much greater than Ike's and we also don't have a young safety that is capable like we do at CB in Keenan and Cortez.

I'm not sure how you think his tackle number was good. He was tied for 27th in the league. Playing the position in our defense that is designed to get the most tackles that is not very good. I look at that as 27 of 32. He also was #1 in the league in missed tackles and TD's given up. Tackles is also only 1 stat, he graded out poorly at many other stats.

I feel like you are stuck in the past with these guys. They were great players in their day, but that day is done and if we want to win #7 we

No but he was a very solid player on teams we will remember forever, so its easy to get caught up in not wanting to see these guys go.

I keep going on record saying i think this year we will make more moves via Free Agency than we have in a long time. At least 2 starters. Gotta make changes or we will be 8-8 or worse.

You can't pull 1/3rd of the season out of context and say stats don't lie.... you might as well say stats can be manipulated...ever since the 1ST bengals game, ike was lights out..... so much so that lewis finished the season as the most targeted cb in the league..if you're the most targeted, you'd better lead in breakups... I guess you throw out how poorly the secondary played when ike went down don't you?
If you're gonna throw out stats, then use the whole thing and not snippets

I'm not joining this debate to pick keeping one over the other. Honestly, if the choice were left up to me I wouldn't be able to make it. Will Lewis keep up what he did last season or will he be a one year wonder? An Ike that is getting older is still probably as fast as most receivers in this league. I think people forget just how fast Ike is/was!

I was not trying to leave out tidbits of information, that was all i could find on him for those stats. Although 6 games was 1/2 of Ike's season. Throw in the Denver playoff game and thats 7 games in a row that he played terrible. He did play better after the first 6 games this season, but still not great. I think Ike has been a good player thats career is on a downside.

Still no one is answering the real question...

Do you resign 27 year old Keenan Lewis and cut Ike, do you let Keenan walk, keep Ike and find a replacement in the next few years, or try to resign Keenan and keep Ike then sacrafice somewhere else that needs help?

On a side note I really don't think our secondary was terrible at all last year. I think the team had bigger issues than that, but this is a discussion of what should we do this off-season at the CB position.

i will cut ike and sign lewis if he is asking the right price , we need to move on and i was never a big fan of ike , if lewis is the man of this season is a no brainer , anyway something has to be done and you go with younger
