Love this. What a cool opportunity for him to be able to turn right around and get a coaching perspective with the Steelers. I can't really seem him in broadcasting, but he does have the experience.

I saw a thing on the Gameday App the other day that said Deshea Townsend was also getting some coaching experience. I don't know how to pull links from that app though.

Well he was wearing a Steelers shirt in the headline. I just saw the headline of it. He did play for the Colts too though so that would make sense.

I Agree, he basically said he still wants to broadcast but put that on the back burner. I can hear Dan now...that's my boy! :lolol:

I'm thinking perhaps Rooney made this happen for Ike. He always treated him like a son and and makes sense to keep him in the "family business."

Yeah, I have to say this is pretty cool. I've had my share of moments where I was cursing the TV screen when Ike had some of his famous PI moments, but I like seeing him continue to be part of the team in some way.

Keeping ex players around for sentimental reasons is no way to manage a team, especially one like Ike who couldn't coach pop warner..........

That seems pretty harsh. He neutralized our opponents #1 WR for many years, he can add some valuable things to the youngsters. Especially instilling an offseason work ethic that for him was very beneficial to his longevity.

That's pretty much what i was insinuating with my post but much less direct. LOL. It's never good when an owner makes "business" decisions for "personal" reasons. I'm sure it made sense to rooney but it may not be the best for the team. Emphasis on "may." Who knows, it could end up being a great choice but there has been an unwritten Steeler code that players do not immediately transition to coaching. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the first time I've seen it.

Devils advocate here, but how many former players wanted to coach immediately after leaving the field? I don't know the answer to that. I think its a disservice to Ike's coverage abilities to assume he cannot coach. Ask Jaromir Jagr how to coach someone to hit a slapshot and he's clueless because its so natural. Ask someone who went to a small college and turned himself into a big time NFL corner how to cover and he may tell you some things. I say "good job" to the Rooneys for trying all avenues to turn one of the weakest part of the defense into a stronger unit by exploring all routes. It may or may not work out. But I would think Ike has some valuable intel that goes beyond his notoriety for dropping INTs. You have to be in position to make picks before you actually get your hands on them.

i think for all intents and purposes it's nothing more than an internship sort of thing and if it transitions into something more so than Great! Ike is very knowledgable and that can't be debatable. When it comes to off field issues, keeping in shape, 411 for the mental challenge of locking down a number 1 etc... He has the tools I think and to boot he's been around recent enough and age/mentality wise is still very relatable to the new kids ( meaning he hasn't been gone 20 years).

everyone can debate the this and that's of Ike and we've all screamed his name in vain at times, but he anchored his job in the secondary solidly. Maybe he held on a season or two too long and yeah he dropped his HOF ballot by letting the picks squirt through or bounce off of his hands. But he was all around solid unlike much of his diva counterparts without much praise on his way up. He played damn good ball, and as passionate as he is might make a damn good coach. We'll see but he's more than earned the right from this front office or others to let him wet his tongue in this current venture!

The man wasnt scared to hit, to rush, to play the run, or to handle the other teams number 1 week in and week out... If he can impress that on the youngsters then it's a good thing.

Just keep him away from the jugs machine!

There is a difference between saying he hasn't coached and saying he can't coach.
    We don't know yet.
The article implied that Ike was helping out the younger players in past year, so he may have the talent to be a coach.
