Only half of that is true. While he does keep his emotions in check, to imply he is meek and has no balls until now is false. You can just look at Tomlin and see he is a no nonsense take no **** kind of guy. If you had the privilege of being able to interview the players, I'd bet they laugh at you if you suggested Tomlin didn't have any balls. You think a soft person could command the respect of a football team?

Yeah, I don't understand the 'Tomlin shows no emotion' criticism. Makes no sense at all.

With that said, the most effective coaches in this games history have been rather . . . emotionless? (Chuck Noll, Bill Walsh, Bill Parcells, Tom Landry, Don Shula, Joe Gibbs, Bill Belichek . . . even in the college ranks look to guys like Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Bear Bryant . . . )

Emotion? We don't need no stinking emotion! Leave that to the special teams coaches. How poised do guys like Bobby April look running all over the place with their arms flailing jumping up and down and screaming his head off?

True, but we can throw in Bill Cowher, Vince Lombardi, John Madden, Jimmie Johnson, Tom Coughlin and sometimes Mike Tomlin as emotional coaches who achieved at a high level. I think either style can work if it's sincere and not fake.

I agree either style is fine, if it`s sincere, but from all I`ve read about him, Lomardi tended to show his emotions behind closed doors, not so much, on the sidelines, on gameday.
I could be wrong. Was to young to watch him live, but that`s the picture of the man, I come away with.
Also, I want to point out, that I said "showed anger ON CAMERA..." I have never doubted that he lights the team up in practice, off field, etc.
He has ALWAYS come across as a take no nonsense kinda guy.
And on a side note, I don`t think it was necessarily a "DUMB" question, just one he didn`t feel like addressing, after he had already answered pretty much the same question right before it.
    A. Brown, already realizes it, because I read an article where he said it himself, but, He COULD have broken his hand or something. not smart.
Not a big deal to me, I get the competitiveness, and how they can get carried away after facing each other day after day.
It seems to have been worked out now.
Story`s put to bed. Move on, nothing to see here.
    GO STEELERS! :yeehaw:
Edit, this was the most recent article I read about said incident...(The Headline is "sensational", but the story clarifies a few things...)

Jimmie Johnson? What does a NASCAR driver have to do with it?

Coughlin is pretty stoic. I'd throw him in with the previous bunch. He's a disciplinarian and doesn't show a ton of emotion.

I don't know about Madden and Lombardi. I'm too young.

And Cowher seems to be the most animated (and least successful) of all the coaches mentioned.

You ARE kidding, about Jimmy, right?
Just listen to the know it all J. Johnson on Fox pre-game, and you might remember he coached for a hated rival... :roflmao:
P.S., If Cowher wasn`t sucessful, because he won only ONE superbowl, while getting us into numerous playoffs, and Championship games, you have a VERY high standard of success!!! :hehehe:
I wanna win the Bowl every year, too... But Bill didn`t do too bad here. :yeehaw:

Injuries aside, I like the sense I'm getting from what is going on with the team from the coaches on down. The competitive spirit seems to be live and well in camp and I, for one, like it. Anyone that has played football knows that you need to have some confidence in yourself to be successful. When two confident people collide, each one wanting to be successful, you get what is going on in camp. Like any good family, you can fight amongst yourselves and get over it but no one outside the family is allowed to do so. I know people believe that Goodell is wussifying the game but I still love to see mean, nasty players colliding at 100 mph trying to kill the other guy. One of the reasons I gravitated to the Steelers, oh so long ago, was because of their toughness and I would hate to see them lose what I love about them!

    I love Coach Cowher.

With that said, you're damn right I have a "VERY high standard of success!!!" I'm a Steelers fan. Our success is measured by one thing only: Lombardi's.
