If you think this season has been bad, what's going to happen next season?

So despite our lack of talent we have one of the worst cap situations in the league. Not only that but the only way we were able to stay afloat this season was by offloading a ton of money into next season. We are looking at 10mil+ for Ike, Troy, Woodley, and Timmons and a whopping 18mil to Ben. And we have to deal with Sanders as well.

All these other teams have these insanely talented players that score points and are fun to watch and they are still able to go out and pick up solid free agents to fill holes or simply bolster their already talented rosters.

I hate sounding so Steeler bashing but I just simply wonder where did we go so wrong. It just seems our problems run deep and I almost feel like the time has finally come for a complete change in culture and philosophy in this franchise.

Alot of people blame Tomlin and/or Haley for our current woes and I have done my fair share of that as well... and I think there is some issues there but is the bigger problem the front office? Namely, Kevin Colbert? Is he just not able to keep up with the current flow of the NFL?

All of these dooming does seem a bit premature but I can't help but feel there is just something wrong with this franchise right now... different then just having a rough start to a season.

I just hope Bell comes back healthy and tears it up and we can put some of this worry to bed.

p.s. Ofc the Steelers have an amazing drive as I am typing this! Nice to see Moye get some action! GO STEELERS!

Well, I don't think we bring Sanders back and truthfully I have my doubts about Woodley. Troy, Clark, and Ike are all a little long in the tooth but aside from Shark I don't see that we have a lot of talent behind them. As much as it pains me to say it I think we are going to see it get worse before it gets better.

Eek yeah I forgot about that one I guess since hes injured... But yeah it seems we are going to have to let a bunch of these guys go that hold what left of this team together with not much behind them. That is if we ever want to fix our cap situation. >.<

Considering how bad we have looked without him, he might just be worth it. But we might want to draft his replacement this year or next. Maybe with our extra 3rd rd pick we will get for Mike Wallace

Heath is my favorite player, he grew up a few miles from where I did and my parents actually know his. I am not saying he is done, he has some football left, and Jones may end up being a beast, but I really wanted Eifert in the first round.

With the way the NFL cap is set up you have to look 2-3 even 4 years ahead just to keep a viable bench.

Up the middle 3 and outs? 3rd and long Draw plays? Bubble screen after bubble screen? Is it possible we let go of one coordinator for him to go on and be very successful and replace him with an identical one? Or is somehow Tomlin behind those bonehead play calls that seem to be a trend no matter who our OC is?

And once again... we take the more productive guy out to put Redman in because "ITs the Steeler Way!" is so dumb and annoying. The guy is not an NFL caliber running back.

I'd like to, but the last six weeks has been like watching the browns wearings Steelers uniforms and I think most of us are afraid that's what the rest of the season is going to be like.

This is a 1998-2001 situation where it's going to take a good while to fix the mess.

Hey, USCG. Where'd you grow up? I'm a Richlands guy. Born in the same hospital as Heath only a few years earlier. :smiley1:

I think this will be the last season we see many of the familiar faces. For me, the season will be successful if our young OL begin to gel. That is really the bet for turning this team around relatively quickly. If this happens, creates a run game, gives Ben time and keeps him healthy, and keeps a younger D (it will get younger and inexperienced next year) off the field. I feel this is how the FO is hedging their bets this year. Not saying they're completely throwing the towel in on this year. But I think they realize we aren't going to be good early (clearly). But it the line gels and Bell produces....may have a decent season. If nothing else it set the table for next year. I think this move was started last year, but injuries to the line impeded the process.

It has been a long time since we looked this bad for this long, from last year, preseason, (I know it's only preseason) ha, ha, up to now. I agree it's going to take a while..

major changes are coming next year.

Sanders wont be back. i could see Troy returning just because he is such a Steeler. Ike and Clark are both probably gone. same with Keisel. im not sure what all the cap hits will be on those guys, but i think DL is coaching his last season and that defense is going to look a lot different next year.

The guys you're all complaining about are the only playmakers on the team. Troy, Heath, Woodly, Ben?

Losing any of them would multiply our woes by 10x's considering what would be left on the field. Money is not the problem - the lack of talent on our O-Line is 90% of our problems. Fix our O-Line, give our QB 2 more seconds to find a receiver, and that will up our offenses game play 100%. When Ben scrambles, it's him making up for the lack of O-line, and usually with the extra 3 seconds of scrambling time, he finds his perfect receiver.

Now imagine the O-Line doing the work for him. No scramble. He can sit in the pocket and do his job. Why are we expecting the QB and recievers to be open and throwing in 1.5 seconds. We're talking about Troy? Heath? Woodly? heck no. They're not the problems. THEY are the reason we are not getting beat 45 to 0 in these games.
