If the Steelers go defense in the first round it should be this guy

He's 260 pounds and can run, give Bush some help at ILB, he also has good hands getting those interceptions.

I do think it is possible that he is the best player on the board when we go to draft. If Vince Williams could be a potential cap cut, I could see it. Spillane could start out the year as the starter if needed and he works his way into the D.

    Agreed.

He is the modern archetype for the Linebacker Position. Reminds me fondly of Leighton Vander Esch when he declared. Only major difference is that, unlike Vander Esch, Collins does not care at all to stick his nose in the proverbial fan and get bloodied while doing it.

If nothing else, should Vince Williams be let go, Zaven Collins is the guy I want. My biggest worry though is that teams like Las Vegas and Miami DESPERATELY NEED Defensive Help of all kinds. Let us not forget Andrew Berry; GM of the Cleveland Browns either as he seems to like those hybrid players.

I will not be shocked if Cleveland elects to trade up to get him either. That said, if he is on the board, I would run to that podium.

We could do worse. I am hoping offense first 3 picks RB and 2 OL.

i doubt that happens. center for sure. RB is too deep with some good ones to pass up some other positions. LB, CB, WR need to be fairly early unless they find a gem later. jean-charles maybe. i'm still of the surratt camp. he can do a lot of things. there are some tackles later that are really underrated.

The only, and I mean only problem I see with this guy is the level of competition he's seen. Does anyone else worry?

No way three inside linebackers go in the first 15, after Parsons and JOK. Of course, Parsons may fall because he, apparently, is a douche, and JOK may be too small for a lot of teams. Too much need for qb's (most likely 5), edge rushers, WRs, cbs, and tackles. And who knows where Etienne and Harris go.
From what I've seen, Collins is ranked anywhere from 17 to mid 40's. Guess we'll have to see.

I like Surratt it is a position of need also. But not as much as OL and run game.

Mac, I think you are reading me wrong, I have stated we need 2 OL in this draft possibly starting capable
what round we take them in I don't care, I understand we have needs in other area's ILB, OLB SS, TE but
for us to compete at a high level we have got to fix the run game.

I have Collins high in my list of potential defensive options in the 1st round. There's a couple of guys I like more, but Collins is the one who is most likely to be there.

I still have my heart set on Najee Harris and I also understand if we go OT.

As much as we love to take defensive guys in the 1st round, I have a hunch that Colbert will go OT, either Alex Leatherwood from Bama or Jenkins from OSU.

I love it when so many QB's are getting pimped up, some have 5 going in the first 10 rounds, who really knows though? If it does happen then runs start to happen as owners and GM's panic and go for need instead of BPA (my dream anyway). At 24 there should be some very good players, if there is someone you value you can trade up (I hope not), a limited number of spots to trade down and still maintain a 1st round pick (optimal to me). The needs are so great on this team I would not mind them trading down and getting another value pick in the 3rd.

We cannot pass on a starting caliber tackle or offensive lineman with the first pick. There will be a very good offensive lineman available with that pick

There will also be starting caliber tackles and o-line, particularly centers, available in 2 and 3.

I disagree. with that first pick we have to take the best o lineman available. not wait till the round 2 or 3

My opinion, which of course doesn't mean squat to the Steelers, is that we have two starting caliber tackles, Chucks and Banner. There are no centers worth a first round grade, but lots with a second/third round grade. I don't see drafting a first round tackle (if one of the top three falls, I may change my opinion) just to be A) the swing tackle, or B) kick either Chucks or Banner to swing tackle.

This draft is deep at tackles, there will be some available in the second round.

I'm hoping for a Linebacker at some point in the draft. Vince ain't getting any younger, and we saw Spillane's limitations.
