They make this this deal for a number of reasons... IF they trade Fields, then they consider his ceiling to be less than Williams. Whether you like Williams or not, his ceiling is considered to be "generational" by most of the so called "draft experts". Fields can both be a franchise signal caller AND be less than a generational talent. They also extend the QB rookie salary by 3 years in this scenario, allowing them to pay a team around Williams that can compete. If Williams turns out to be better than Fields, then they have a potential window to be hyper competitive.

It's not like they'd be giving up on Fields and just trying their luck at whoever falls... they have the first overall pick in a draft where there are multiple extremely high rated college prospects.

I can understand not liking Fields. He's imperfect for sure, but he is a hell of a lot better than what we have and I wouldn't mind them trying it.

I'd also pass on Williams... Big fan of Maye though. I might take him instead

Who would then morph into Drew Brees with his next team.

It really isnt saying much that Fields is better than we got! I agree 100 percent Fields is better, I just dont think he would be our franchise qb. Now you would have 2 qbs to develop.

I'm not sure how long he has been covering the Steelers for them. He used to cover the Penguins for the P-G. Schefter has better sources, if only because he has more connections outside of Pittsburgh, but I'm talking about comparing the DeFabo to the legion of bloggers that folks here keep citing.

No. He is faster, and has a stronger arm. Thats all. You think KFP has problems reading a D. Go watch the all 22 on Fields. Don't listen to what they say. Just watch all the open opportunities he never sees.
