If Steelers are 1-5-1 after the bye what do we do with Bell?

Assuming he reports week 7 and in shape do we bother playing him if the Steelers are 1-5-1?

To reach 9-6-1 to have a shot at the playoffs the Steelers would have to win 8 of the last 9 games, which seems almost impossible, even for an elite team (which we are not).

Not playing Bell means less wear and tear for next year which benefits the Steelers if they re-sign him or if he is traded or leaves, in the terms of the comp we get for Bell.

Tomlin would probably believe they can win out.

No one is going to trade for him given he's only a partial year rental.

Good thing we had another Bell post to clear this all up.

Trade bell, Ben, and AB and buy proven defensive talent. Start the new Steelers.

Who will be the new QB of the "new" Steelers? Who is replacing AB?

Juju is a better replacement for ab than conner is for leveon.

Are you buying this proven talent off of the shelf at the NFL Shop? You make it sound easier than I’m thinking? :dontknow:

Ben ==> Dobbs probably or Rudolph ==> see Machomes, Mayfield, Trubisky - Why throw good money after bad? Ben's future is retirement. You rebuild with youth.

AB ==> JuJu, Washington, Hunter, Switzer, James, McDonald and the next WR draft pick - its is the one thing Colbert's organization is good at. Big Plus no selfish diva screwing with TEAM chemistry. It is called a team approach where the opposition can't focus on one player no mater how good people think he is. The Steelers' opponents have effectively shut out AB this year. If you blame Ben, then see Dobbs and Rudolph answer.

If we trade our killer B's, then the defensive talent will be whoever's playing the Steelers.
Good defense is extinct in the NFL.

Some of you don't understand just how rare in-season trades are in the NFL, especially deals involving players going both ways. The Steelers are very unlikely to get building blocks for their defense in a deal right now. They aren't trading Roethlisberger. I doubt they can get a worthwhile deal for Bell. Maybe they could get value for Brown, but they have made it clear they aren't going to go that route.

Why are people assuming Roethlisberger is done after this season? Is that because he struggled for two out of four games so far? He started slow last season and was still a top-10 quarterback. He said he wants to play more than just this season. I get the over reactions. I'm frustrated, too. That doesn't mean all the fantasy trade crap makes sense.

2018 Defensive Free Agents whose tires were worth kicking. BYW about 7 of them are DBs … really good DBs as in not Steeler quality DBs.

I value player positions in the following order: (1) QB, (2) OL & DL, (3) LB & DB, (4) TE, (5) WR, (6) RB. Today I would shop Ben and AB for a high draft pick and a defensive player either proven or very high potential. I believe several teams will believe there is still meat on Ben’s bones. Bell’s situation has a lot of hair on it but I would try to do the same thing with him as soon as possible. Now there is lots of cap space to acquire selected defensive free agents. Not saying you replace the whole defense with proven free agents. However, there will be available a few attract players from a financial and performance perspective next year and every year. The drafting of defensive players would not be completely in the hands of Colbert and his staff nor Tomlin. The Steelers need a couple of retired consultative scouts who have proven track records of selecting successful defensive players.

Is he supposed to believe they can't win out? You don't want a HC with a defeatist attitude .

It is the right way to think as a coach... I’m just saying because of that Tomlin would want Bell to still play....even though it might be best to sit him and try to trade him in that instance.

I should have reworded my original comment for all these technical scholars of this board. I should have said
I hope they sign and trade him before he gets a chance to put on the Steeler uniform.

Or keep playing the way they have been and earn the #1 pick fair and square.
