Agreed. I had read about it. They recognized the challenge also.

David Goyer's Foundation TV series brings Isaac Asimov's works to life on Apple TV+ - but it makes quite considerable changes along the way.

They've struggled to deal with the vast period of time encompassed by Asimov's tale, with its initially-anthological structure, and with its cerebral concepts.

"I think the secret sauce for adapting Foundation was really rooting it in emotion," he explained. "Really rooting it in character." Although he hopes the fans will enjoy the show, he understands Foundation needs to appeal to more than just the fanbase, and so the key is to focus in on the characters. Given Asimov's own stories are concept-driven, that means conducting substantial rewrites.

If a show , or movie isn't like the books ....I don't like it. Period. I can't think of one that I actually like that isn't. For Example: I hate watched the Game of Thrones the last 3 seasons. I haven't even checked out Interview With a Vampire since I saw the previews, and the Dark Tower movie made Me want to vomit.
I would say John Carpenters The Thing is the only one I actually liked that was different from the story of Who Goes There by John Campbell.

What did you think about Stephen King's "The Stand"? I read the book many years before in only 3 days. I thought the movie did a very good job. I thought "The Green Mile" was very good also, but I read the book after the movie.

    I don’t read a lot

But Hunt For Red October was pretty good book to movie

The problem is to a movie to well mimic a book would require a 14 hour movie

The Martian is really that way

Then they should make a one year series for such books IMO.

I like both up to a point.
I will say I thought the Green Mile was done as the better of the two.
I read the Green Mile back when I had to buy it in pieces....when it 1st came out it came in small little books ....a part of the story at a time ....almost like a series.

With sci-fi and fantasy, you get more of a hard code fan base of the books, including me. The movies for Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter kept mostly to the books, and their box offices reflected this.

I'm one of the few Fantasy readers that didn't like the LOTRs books.
I've told this before, but in the 9th grade I got sent to the principals office over those books .....LoL....when I told My English teacher that She must have not read much Fantasy if She truly believes they are the greatest Fantasy books written. LoL.....I got 3, or 4 licks/paddle for that offense. Teachers hate to be wrong.

I'm a truck driver. After doing it for 27 years I finally have it easy. I do one round trip per day between Kansas City in Saint Louis. 40 hours guaranteed, Monday through Thursday. I listen to audio books all the time while driving. I've been listening to books for over 20 years of my career. A good narrator will turn a so-so book into a good book

It will also turn, and has the ability to turn a Great book into a terrible book.
It's why I don't listen to books. Although if I had the same type of job....I might very well consider it. .....because that would be perfect.

Very true. A bad narrator can destroy a book

I prefer the way they fleshed out the characters outside of Flagg a little better in the first TV series. The dialog was a bit hokey, but you really came out rooting for them a bit more.I’ve watched it multiple times. Second one was meh, won’t watch it again.

never read the Green Mile as a book, but they way that movie was able to make you feel it, really worked.

I read the Martian right before it became well known. That’s one book that just read so well you didn’t want to stop. Movie brought most of that to the screen.

The Expanse was tracking very well with small changes until they had to kill off Alex Kamal because of the actor doing POS things. The whole series will lose some continuity in the telling, if they decide to finish it off.

I DVR'd the game so I was able to make 7:00 mass, be home at 8:30 and catch up during the commercials by the beginning of the 2nd quarter. If some asshat hadn't wrecked 500ft before the entrance to my plan causing a U turn and a good 5-7 detour, I wouldn't have missed much.
