Last 3 years? They were 12-4 three years ago, I'm sure quite a few of those 12 wins were against teams they "should win". Last seasons 8-8 campaign they were 6-2 before Ben was seriously injured. That leaves this season, and after the 0-4 start, played pretty good football. Can't look at everything in a vacuum, Jack.

Tim Tebow beat us. That's primarily what I was referring to from three years ago. We were 12-4 but even at that, we seemed to struggle against inferior teams. The complaint then was that we always seemed to play down to the competition. But let's just take the last two seasons, Blast. Are you saying that we haven't lost too many games that we should have won? A vacuum? I think we have two full season of mediocre play and losses that should have been wins to make that assertion. That's a pretty good sample size if you ask me.

Yes, a vacuum, means you have to examine more then just wins and losses. In the Tebow game, Ben was nursing an injury, thats the same year he shouldn't have even been playing in the SF game if you remember, could barely walk. Also, there was a complete lack of respect for Tebow in that game, you and I could have hit those receivers. The last 2 seasons I already broke down in my last post.

I don't mean to pile on but, quite often, teams lose to other teams that they "should" beat. I hear what you're saying from Charger people about Rivers too. Sometimes teams "play down" to their competition, sometimes the ball bounces weirdly, your all-pro receiver steps out of bounds, sometimes you have to play against the other team AND the refs. I agree that our Steelers have lost way too many winnable games the last couple of years but, sometimes caca happens and there's noone to blame.

To me, 8-8 means we've underperformed. We've lost too many games that we should have won. Ben's been beaten by too many quarterbacks that shouldn't be able to "carry his jockstrap" as a player infamously once said. And you may have noticed that we haven't been in the playoffs the last couple of seasons because of wins and losses. We can scrutinize everything else until we're blue in the face but until we stop losing games that we should win, we'll continue to waste away in Mediocreville.

When they start awarding wins based on a teams talent on paper alone get back to me. When you're 0-4 there are no inferior teams to yourself. Yes there are games you feel you should win, but nothing is a given in the NFL.
I don't care how good Ben is and how bad Matt Castle is supposed to be, doesn't help if the defense can't stop anybody and your OL can't block.
Bottom line is it's a team sport, not our QB against yours.

Does Ben play defense now? Did he give up that run to Pryor?

Glenn, will you, can you admit that the Steelers have lost WAY TOO MANY GAMES the last couple of seasons that they should have won?? Fans, analysts, Vegas odds makers, bookies, pre-schoolers, etc. have all been surprised at the frequency with which the Steelers seem to lose to inferior teams. Maybe you're right. Maybe the Steelers were actually the inferior team when they played the Raiders, Titans, Vikings, Dolphins, etc. and nobody realized that except you. ;)
And they don't award wins based on talent, they award wins BASED ON WINS! That's why the Steelers are enjoying the playoffs from the comfort of their own living rooms this weekend.

You keep saying we should have one these games because Ben is a better QB than the other teams QB, right?

I keep saying that the Steelers, with Ben Roethlisberger, one of the best quarterbacks of this era, as its field general have made a habit of losing games they should win over the last couple of seasons and, in the process, have wasted a couple of Ben's prime career years. That's it. It really isn't any more or less complicated than that and I'm quite frankly surprised that anyone would not agree that we've lost too many games we should have won the last couple of seasons.

I'd probably agree with you if you took out the highlighted stuff. The problem is that you keep acting like it's Ben against their QB only, when there are 50 other guys playing in the game. I wish it were that simple, but it's not.

You are correct. I remember the 80s when we were rarely ever favored to win but, as a fan, I expected us to win every week, even wit QBs like David Woodley, Todd Blackledge and Bubby Brister, lol.

But, from a more objective and rational standpoint, we have managed to lose way too many games that we've been favored in the last two years. When that happens, you're 8-8 and home for the playoffs.

But I think that is a very important point. With most of the other talent being equal, the quarterback makes the difference. It's a quarterback driven league. I think a good quarterback has the ability to get the most out if the talent level of his team. Look at the Broncos with Manning compared to Tebow. Instead of pulling wins out of their hind ends every week, the Broncos are now dominating opponents. What's the difference? The quarterback. How many years has Brady played with no name receivers and running backs with tremendous success? The quarterback is, or at least should be, the difference maker.
