I've never done a marathon, only a half-marathon. And that was plenty. My time was 1:55:03. Assuming that I could keep that pace over the next 13.1 miles, that would put me at 3:50:06. But I found Alan's results HERE and his half time was 1:54:51, so he did beat my 1/2 time by 12 seconds. But consider that the terrain in Pittsburgh is much much harder than flat New Orleans. Also factor in that I took a gel before the race (long story...BAD IDEA) that is essentially a caffeine pill for energy. Never having done so before and not being used to it, my body reacted by giving me a severe case of diarrhea for 2 days. The grumbling started about mile 11 and I finished the final 2.1 miles running with my butt puckered as tight as I could .

    That is pretty impressive.
For a guy pushing 40, weighing somewhere near 300lbs, from a profession where knee surgeries are routine, running a marathon anywhere near 4 hr is an amazing accomplishment.

Thats in the ballpark of St Louis Cardinal Shortstop Ozzie Smith taking the field on his 40th birthday and doing a complete forward flip. It's just unnatural.

TTF is gonna KILL you!!! If Steel goes missing you guys we need to make sure TTF has a rock solid alibi! LOL! No that's cool that he did that. I was thinking I heard the other day that he was a lot thinner and had ran one but I can't remember where I heard it. People who run marathons are really serious about it. My uncle has ran quite a few and he will travel around doing them in different cities. He said the Boston Marathon is his favorite. You might be surprised to know this about me but I've driven several marathons. People don't start threads about people that drive them though. Weird.

    Lol.

You should have done what Paula Radcliffe did the year she won the London Marathon - just pull over for a "pit stop" when nature called halfway through the race.

Yep, ran a 5K in November and made a "pit stop" before the race even started :smiley1:

    Way to go, Alan!!

Thats one thing that I've learned, that all serious runners crap before a race. Even 5K's. Go into any bathroom before and the urinals are wide open while there is a line a mile long to use the ****ter.
