let me get this right. The NFL fines and tells AB that he will ejected from the game if he wears cleats that are not standard equipment. Then, after he gives up, they come up with some Cleats for a Cause BS. I just do not understand the NFL. They completely ripped off AB's idea, and I am sure they will find a way to make some money off it. JOKE!!!!!

When is Goodell's term up??? I know the 32 owners opt him into office, but we as fans need to have a vote in this process. After all we are the ones making the owners and the NFL rich. Maybe we can do a voting process like the President and send in our votes or have voting places in each state. How do the owners select the commissioner? So Goodell was the best choice available? who was runner up? I smell a RAT!!! More has happened during Goodell's time than any other Commissioner I bet. Look at the Cheatriots for example...every year they try to gain an edge and mainly by circumventing the system or outright cheating!!! Because Robert Kraft and Billy "Hoodiechick"are not afraid of Roger Goodell and can careless. They just want to win Superbowls at any cost.

The NFL can keep old Roger as long as they want but they don't get a dime of my money until he's gone. We've been waiting to buy new jerseys for a long time. But not until he's gone. I know they don't care but so what.

They don't care nor do they notice that one fan isn't buying a jersey because they haven't yet fired Goodell. Besides, they make money off of you when you watch games on TV

I'm not certain but I don't think the NFL makes a penny from fan viewership on TV, the networks benefit from that.

The networks and Direct TV have contracts in place with the NFL. Thats where they make their money, along with sponsorships, merchandise and ticket sales.

The NFL does make money on fan TV viewership. The dollars that the networks are willing to negotiate into their contracts is based on expectations of advertising revenues. If TV viewership drops, ratings drop which leads to lower advertising revenues and lower future TV dollars.

So while the NFL's 2016 revenue may not be dependent on 2016 viewership, future revenues are definitely impacted by 2016 viewership.

Of course depending on contract terms, some of the 2016 revenues may be affected by 2016 viewership if there's some sort of revenue sharing.

I just don't understand why he can't obey the rules on the field and do whatever he wants off. He has a Snapchat and social media to show-off and do whatever he wants.

I respectfully disagree. If people are not watching, those contracts are not as big. My point was if you're going to make a stand then go all the way and tune out. They're still getting his money through advertisements.

I will never donate to the Komen foundation. The ratio of donations that goes to "operations" is ridiculous and a shame. It's more of a business. Plenty of cancer foundations to donate to. Or M.S. or M.D. or childrens charities, etc....

I understand that but it's still the networks that are effected directly by a fan tuning out. It would take millions of fans to not watch in order for the networks to have any leverage in negotiations and even then, they may not get a better deal. Its not like the NFL has any competitors, they'll simply say, fine, another network will pay.

To Glenns point, a fan tuning out will effect nothing. If a fan wants to effect the NFL's bottom line, don't buy merchandise or go to games. Otherwise they are just pissing into the wind.

1 guy tuning out no, but a guy saying he's not buying a jersey to boycott Goodell yet still watches the games seems a bit silly. The NFL by way of the networks is still getting his money through advertisements.

You're only looking at the short term. If the networks that currently have the NFL lose money because ratings slip and advertising dollars fall, you can bet that the next network contracts will be smaller. The networks are businesses. They compete with each other to carry the NFL. What they're willing to pay is based on what they believe they can make on advertising revenue. They're not in the business of hemorrhaging money just to say that they're the "home of the NFL." If they see that revenue shrinking, they will bid lower the next time the contract is up. if viewership drops and doesn't rebound, it will absolutely hurt the owners' wallets in the long run.

    March of 2019.

You will deal with him until then; all of us included.

Those mythical and cataclysmic voting suggestions aside, as for this whole "#MyCauseMyCleats" initiative, if players are permitted to use cleats as a ways of communicating with a wide array of people who are interested in supporting various causes, then face markings, personal tattoos or other specialized equipment akin to what Cameron Heyward showed to honor his father showed also be considered to expand said initiative. Now, equipment wise, no jerseys or helmets, but something like gloves or socks and set a limit based on the number of causes or choose one cause and elect to wear a set number of items.

If that does not happen, then the NFL competition committee really does not know how to fabricate it's own rules and instead uses such initiatives to obstruct the general public's view of how asinine some of these dress code policies are.

Again, I am all for supporting causes like various forms of Cancer, Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Alopecia, etc., etc. so long as the cause is beneficial towards not just that player or community but to many. Personal vendetta's (many political so I cannot give you any but take Colin Kaepernick's actions thus far) should be the messages the NFL should censor as opposed to positive ones.

It would take such a dip in the ratings for that to happen you guys. Its a really round about way for what Glenn is talking about for the NFL to get money from a fan. Theres more direct ways.

I don't remember who the fan was in this thread that said he won't give Goodell his money but him not watching the game effects nothing. Evening the long term, were talking one fan.
